Celebrating Mother's Day

Apr 26, 2022 Dana Joy

Hello everyone. It's Dana here with you today. As Mother's Day approaches, it was time for me to create my Mother's Day cards. So let's see what I created using a few products from Hero Arts.

My card today features the beautiful new Mother's Day Window Die and the Floral Border Fancy Die. These two products work wonderfully together.

To start the card I die cut the Floral Border Fancy Die from a piece of Kiwi cardstock measuring 4.75" x 6.75". This die is so cool as you can elevate the flower petals, leaves and butterflies by gently lifting them up. To add color to this die cut background, I used my color pencils, making sure to add a layer of white pencil under each color that was added. The white makes the color of the pencil pop on colored cardstock.

Once I had all the coloring complete, I use one of my oval dies from the Nesting Oval Infinity Dies to die cut an opening in my panel. While I had the oval die cuts out, I paired two of the ovals to create a gold frame to adhere over my opening for a polished look. Keeping with the gold theme, I also die cut the Mother's Day Window Die in gold. I fussy cut the words from the die to create just a sentiment piece. For added dimension, I die cut the words and ovals two more times in Dove White cardstock and layered them with Precision Glue, making sure the gold was on top of the white.

Since there was now an opening in the panel, I decided to sponge on a cloudy sky using Soft Sky ink and Hero Arts Blending Brushes. To create the clouds, I tore a piece of scratch paper to create my clouds and blended the ink on an oval that was one size larger than the opening of my window. I adhered that to the back of the opening for a pretty addition to the card.

Now it was time to assemble the cards. My 5" x 7" card base was made using Dove White cardstock. First, I adhered my Kiwi panel to the card base. Next I adhered the gold frame to the opening and the Happy Mother's Day words on top using tweezers. For added interest, I used a few Hero Hues Enamel Dots from the Sunset and Purple packs to my flowers. To pull some white onto the card panel, I added white lines to frame out the flowers using a white gelly roll pen. All that was left was to pop up some of the flower petals on the card base using a pair of tweezers. I LOVE that this creates so much depth and fun on my card.

I hope you have enjoyed yourself here today and have been inspired to create your Mother's Day cards this year. Have a wonderful day everyone and I'll see you back here soon.

Take care,
