Hello crafty friends! It’s Jean here sharing two holiday cards created with the Spellbinders Trim a Tree Collection, which includes dies, glimmer plates, and a stencil that work together or separately. I’m showing how to create cards with this collection using a three-step approach: create the background, create the focal point(s), and embellish. Let’s take a look!
A snowy, forest scene captures the magic of the holidays
- Create background: Create A2-size card base. Cut A2-size panel from navy cardstock. Foil Gifts of Christmas sentiment in Gold in upper-left. Mask sentiment area and apply white embossing paste through the Layered Christmas Tree Stencil (snow portion) to panel. Set aside to dry. Once dry, add to card base. Die-cut hills from Snowdrift cardstock with Color Block Scenic Scape Add to snow background.
- Create focal point: Die-cut two trees from green glitter cardstock with outline tree die in the O Christmas Tree Die-cut detailed tree from white glitter cardstock with die in the O Christmas Tree set and adhere to one of the green glitter trees. Apply gold embossing paste through the Layered Christmas Tree Stencil to the tree assembly to create ornaments. Once tree is dry, add it and unadorned tree to card front.
- Embellish: Die-cut packages with Shopping Spree set from gold and red foil. Assemble and add to scene.
Add extra sparkle to a die-cut card with layers of glitter–cardstock and embossing paste-and metallic touches
- Create background: Create mini slimline card base. Cut 3 ¼" x 6 ¼" panel from navy cardstock. Apply white embossing paste through Layered Christmas Tree Stencil (snow portion) to panel. Set aside to dry. Once dry, add to card base. Die-cut hills from white glitter cardstock with Color Block Scenic Scape Add to snow background.
- Create focal point: Die-cut solid tree from gold foil cardstock with die in the O Christmas Tree Apply white glitter embossing paste through Layered Christmas Tree Stencil (detailed tree) to solid tree. Die-cut detailed tree from white glitter cardstock with die in the O Christmas Tree set and adhere to solid layer. Glimmer foil Shining Christmas Tree sentiment in Red foil on Snowdrift cardstock. Cut sentiment with coordinating die and adhere to tree. Cut star with die in the O Christmas Tree set from gold foil and gold glitter cardstock. Apply gold glitter embossing paste through Layered Christmas Tree Stencil (detailed star) to gold foil star. Once dry, glue stenciled star to glitter star. Add tree and star to card base.
- Embellish: Die-cut ornaments from red foil cardstock with die in the O Christmas Tree set and adhere to tree. Die-cut packages with Shopping Spree set from Brushed Gold and red glitter cardstock. Assemble. Add to scene.

Hi Jackie – the Shining Christmas Tree glimmer foil plate with the “lights” and sentiment can be foiled and cut with the die-cut outline. The sentiment and lights are on one plate. The glimmer foil plate set includes a die to cut out the sentiment separately, which I used. You could glimmer foil with one color and then glimmer foil again (different foil color, different cardstock color), cut out, and add to the tree for variety.
These cards are stunning. Love the layered tree dies. Thank you for all the details as to how you pulled these together. You are an incentive to start thinking about Christmas!
Adorable!
How To Trim A Tree was such a pretty inspiration piece. I loved it. Thank you.
I love those dies!
