Combining Foil and BetterPress for Simple and Pretty Encouragement Cards
Hi there, this is Annie Williams, and I’m thrilled to be back on the blog today to share a couple of simple and pretty cards made with the Modern Botanicals Collection by Dina Wakley. The fun new embossing folders and abstract BetterPress plate designs in this collection combine beautifully with her previously-released designs. I was inspired to mix foiling with letterpress techniques to create three easy encouragement cards.
I thought the circles in the Growing BetterPress Plate & Die Set would be extra fun in gold foil and bright BetterPress inks, so I created this colorful card next.
Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using three of the circles from the Growing BetterPress Plate & Die Set. Position four more circles to overlap and mingle with the foiled circles on your BetterPress chase, apply Laurel, Wild Berry, Azure, and Azalea BetterPress Inks to the separate plates, and press the designs onto the foiled panel. Trim the panel down to 3.75” x 5.5”, mat with turquoise cardstock, and add to a top-folding A2-sized white card base.
Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using one of the feather plates from the Feather Dream BetterPress Plate Set and press the design of another feather plate from the set onto white cardstock, mixing Azure and Leaf BetterPress inks. Cut the feathers out with the coordinating die and add to the card front alongside another foiled sentiment from the Holding Your Heart Sentiments BetterPress Plate Set. Embellish with Gold Mix Gems.
Simply Wonderful Card
Lastly, I wanted to use the frond from the Growing BetterPress Plate & Die Set as a focal point all on its own for this easy (and a little messy) card for a friend.
Trim a piece of Acorn Cardstock to 4” x 5.25” and emboss it using the Lined Circles Embossing Folder. Spritz Mustard Seed Distress Oxide Spray up from the bottom corner of the embossed panel for a fun splatter look and adhere it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base using foam adhesive.
Apply Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using the frond plate from the Growing BetterPress Plate & Die Set and cut it out using the coordinating die. Next, apply Pine and Laurel BetterPress Inks to the frond plate and press it onto white cardstock before cutting it out with the coordinating die. Adhere the fronds to the front of the card, tucking some gold metallic thread behind them first for a little texture and shine. Add a foiled sentiment from the Holding Your Heart Sentiments BetterPress Plate Set and embellish with Gold Mix Gems.
