April My Monthly Hero Countdown: Idea #4 + Giveaway!

MMH Countdown to Creativity

In her Countdown to Creativity post this morning, Lucy mentioned the Daniel Smith watercolor dot card that comes with the kit. Did you catch that? Are you excited?! Daniel Smith watercolors are very high quality artist paints. They are made in the USA (right up in Seattle!), and we couldn't be more thrilled to include them in our kit! We partnered with Daniel Smith to create a custom "dot card" - a small sheet with dots of paint, perfect for you to try out these paints without a huge investment! Each dot of paint can be used 3-5 times, depending on what you're coloring. You simply wet the paint with your brush to get it started.

We know that once you try these paints, you are going to fall in love! So we've also added the same beautiful colors from the Hero Arts Palette to our store in 15ml tubes, available individually as add-ons to the kit beginning on Monday!

And now let's check out these paints in action, once again from Yana. And remember - the April My Monthly Hero kit releases on Monday, April 4 at 1pm eastern!

The beauty of watercolor is that you can use just one color and easily go from a very dark shade to a light one with the help of water. I used my Daniel Smith watercolors to create the card I'm sharing below.

The striped background was created using a flat 1/2" wide brush and Cad. Yellow Deep Hue color - I used an almost dry brush and added evenly spaced horizontal lines to my background panel.

To color the flower I picked the Quinacridone Pink, Cad. Yellow Deep Hue and Serpentine Genuine colors. The flower consists of two individual layers that are foam mounted together for added dimension. The petals and leaves are also shaped a bit and appear to be curled up in real life.

The sentiment for this project, Thinking of you, was heat embossed in [hero_product_link sku="PW110" text="White Embossing Powder"] over a strip of vellum which I wrapped around the panel and adhered from the back. This way it appears to be floating in the air.

This card was also embellished with a few clear sequins and drops that create a visual triangle around the flower.

Win a kit before you can buy it! Just leave a comment on this (and every) Countdown to Creativity post! We’ll randomly draw one lucky winner from all of the comments left across all countdown posts, and announce the winner first thing Monday morning, before the kit launches at 1pm eastern. The more you comment, the more chances to win!

We still have more ideas to share! We'll be back soon.
