Video: Shaped Christmas Cards
I used to love making shaped cards, so when I saw the beautiful Fir Tree Infinity die set, I just knew I had to use them for that!
Watch the how-to below...
(If you are having problems viewing this video, please try watching it HERE in HD on You Tube)
I started by heat embossing the Holiday Florals Bold Prints background in White on green and red layering paper. Once heat set, I layered the two largest tree dies on the background, and die cut it. I also die cut a piece of dimensional foam to go behind the die cut.
A little bit of detail was added by coloring the backgrounds in with a slightly darker green and red marker.
Now, to create the actual shaped card, I die cut a piece of white and then green & red (for the back of the card) from the largest die. I then scored the top of the back pieces about 1.5” down, and added adhesive that scored off, pointed area of the die cut. Adhere the back and front, and this is what creates the card itself!
You can change how the card opens (top versus side) by simply scoring on the top or side. Make sure to give yourself a lot of room for the scored off area – you don’t want the recipient to be able to accidentally pull the card apart! ;)
With the card base ready, I adhered some woodgrain vellum to the front of the base and added some quick black paint splatters. I then topped the card with the die cut embossed trees from earlier, adhering them down with dimensional foam.
The sentiment, from Holiday Ornaments Stamp and Cut, was heat embossed in Gold and cut out in simple strips. I adhered that to the cards, along with some stars I had die cut using the Star Confetti die and glitter paper.
These little cards may seem quite the hassle, but I really enjoy the process, so it’s all fun for me. However, if you’re in a time pinch, you can easily streamline the card, by simply stamping the background with colored ink and skipping the heat embossing, or not bothering with the woodgrain vellum.
Thanks so much for stopping in today and God bless!
