Video: Color Layering Baby Penguin Cards | Color Layering With Yana Series
Yana Smakula
It's no secret that Hero Arts Color Layering stamp sets are very popular! They are a favorite of mine as well - each set is always expertly designed and has everything a stamper needs to create a stunning hand-stamped card.
Welcome back to the 2nd episode of the Color Layering with Yana video series! In each one of my monthly videos I will explore different ink pad and embossing powder color options for Hero Arts Color Layering sets and will hopefully inspire you to stamp! If you missed my first episode showcasing 4 color combo ideas for the Color Layering Fox stamp set be sure to catch it here.
In this post and video I'm taking a closer look at the Color Layering Baby Penguin set and I have 4 unique color combos (and 3 cards) to share.
Watch the video tutorial below to learn how I made the cards I'm sharing today and see me explore various color combinations for this stamp set.
Let's start with Hero's suggested color combo for this set which is Black, Charcoal and Soft Granite.
After stamping the baby penguin in the 3 colors mentioned above I also stamped a hat and a bow tie (found in the Baby Penguin stamp set) using Soft Granite and Charcoal and die-cut all pieces out using coordinating dies.
To make the card I stamped a beautiful branch from the Happy Holly Days set in Moss ink directly onto an A2 white card base, foam mounted the penguin and accessories on top and added a white heat embossed sentiment that reads "Warm Winter Wishes". I also embellished my card using clear gems.
My next card is a Valentine's Day one that features a handsome penguin stamped in shades of brown. I researched the penguins prior to making these cards and was happy to find a few baby critters with adorable brown fur!
I used Cup O' Joe, Brown Ombre and Soft Brown ink colors to stamp this little guy. I used same ink colors for the hat. To make the card you see above I also stamped a little love letter using a stamp from the Love Letters set and colored it with RV13 and RV11 Copic markers.
I also stamped a background using images from the Love Letters and Sealed with a Kiss sets in Black and Ultra Pink.
My last card, Sending Penguin Hugs, features 2 color combo ideas. One penguin was stamped using a mix of dye and pigment inks - Black, Soft Granite and Silver Pigment. The other one has a bit of light blue to his belly was was stamped in Black, Soft Granite and Soft Sky.
After stamping and cutting my penguins out I white heat embossed a gorgeous snowflake background onto white paper and blended Soft Sky ink over it for a resist effect.
I foam mounted both penguins making it look like as if they are hugging each other, added a white heat embossed sentiment and embellished this card with gems.
