Saturdays with Sally: SEW many flowers, SEW much fun!
What goes around, comes around! And today it’s all about making flowers with our Build-a-Flower Infinity Dies. In a matter of minutes you can make an entire basket of flowers using paper, crepe paper, origami paper, craft foam, felt, fabric and more.
As you see peeking through the flowers above is a Hero Arts catalog and a few flowers from 2011. The dies are different but the idea is the same. I wanted to show you how I changed it up this time and made a really fast fringe flower… no sewing necessary! And of course, the classic stitched layered flower.
To make the sew-less fringe flower, die cut the flower from a non-stiff product (I used felt). Slit from the edge to the middle all around the flower. Use three or four pieces depending on the size you want. Glue or stitch in the center. Add a die cut center or button or whatever you desire.
The other flowers are either hand or machine stitched. Some are double thickness without any filler. Some are stitched and filled from behind with filler (I recycle used dryer sheets or plastic bags). To make leaves, hand cut or use a die from another Hero Arts set that has a big leaf! Try using sparkly thread, old embroidery floss (for French knots) and old buttons. Add a pin if you wish to wear it, or a clip for your hair. They also make a great garland for a party.
Have fun and make your day blossom!!
