Mixed Media Card with Sprays and a Delicate Die Cut

Natasha Vacca

Hello crafty friends, it is Creative Team Member Natasha Vacca on the blog today! I am sharing ideas on how to use a delicate die cut, along with sprays to create a mixed media card. So let's get started!

I started by die cutting the Floral Wreath Fancy Die from Pitch Black Cardstock. I die cut the wreath 3 times, then adhered it together with Hero Arts Precision Glue. Next I started to work on my background using two colors of Hero Arts Two Tone Sprays: Bright Yellow & Copper and Ocean Blue & Gold. When working with sprays I use one color at a time. I spritz the color directly to my paper, then add water using a spray bottle. I allow the color to move, as well as move the color with my fingers. Then I set the color using my heat tool, add water droplets, and pick up color with a paper towel. I continue to repeat this process until I have the colors and textures I am looking for.

Once my background was complete, I added the Swirling Stars and Stencil to sections of the background. I applied White Hero Paste using a Palette Knife. I allowed the paste to completely dry, then added Black Hero Wax over sections of the paste by applying the paste with my finger. I also added the Script Stencil with Granite Core Ink to sections of the background using a small blending brush for added texture.

Next I chose two butterflies from the Butterfly Hero Transfers set. I applied these to Dove White Cardstock, then fussy cut the butterflies. Then I applied Caramel and Espresso Core Inks to the edges. I also applied Gold Hero Wax for added shine and texture to the butterflies. The sentiment is from the Everyday Sentiment Strips stamp set. I have a set of these prepared for future card projects. I stamped this set onto Dove White Cardstock using Onyx Pigment Ink and heat embossed with Clear Embossing Powder.

I completed my card by distressing the edges of the card panel using my scissors. I added Pitch Black Ink to the edges for more texture and then adhered all the layers together using a combination of liquid glue and foam tape.

I had so much fun with this card and I hope it gives you some ideas on ways to use delicate die cuts for a mixed media style card!
