Easy Apple Shaker Card Tutorial with DIY Confetti

We're giving a favorite die and stencil set a fresh twist with a colorful apple shaker card! Featuring beautifully stenciled apples, custom die cut confetti, and a clever shaker technique using leftover packaging, this project is a fun way to create an interactive card without all the bulk.

Hello friends! It's Mindy, and I'm happy to be back on the Hero Arts blog with another fun project to share! I love finding new ways to use products I already have, so today I'm revisiting the Apple Frame Die and Stencil Bundle from the I Pick You Collection. This time, I'm turning that beautiful apple frame into a shaker card with a custom confetti mix that perfectly coordinates with my design.

The best part? Using leftover clear packaging keeps the shaker lightweight and eliminates the need for bulky foam adhesive. Let me show you how to make one too!

Die Cut and Stencil the Apple Frame

Start by die cutting the Apple Frame from white cardstock. Once die cut, place the frame onto a sticky mat to hold it securely in place while you add color with the coordinating layering stencils.

I'm using a beautiful selection of colors from the Hero Arts Hero Hues ink collection to bring these apples to life.

Here is the color combination I used:

Using a blending brush, work through each stencil layer to build up the color and detail. The combination of reds, greens, and brown gives the apples a beautiful finished look.

Create a Soft Ink-Blended Background

Next, let's create the background panel for our shaker card.

Start with a piece of white cardstock and lightly blend Cornflower ink around the edges using a blending brush. I love how this adds just a hint of color without distracting from the apple frame.

You don't need a heavy application of ink here. A soft touch is all it takes to add interest and help frame the finished design.

Stamp Your Sentiment

Before assembling the shaker, we'll want to add our greeting.

Use the die cut Apple Frame as a guide to determine where your sentiment should go. This is a great way to make sure everything will be visible once the card is assembled.

I'm using a sentiment from the You're Golden Stamp & Cut set, stamped in black ink for a nice, crisp impression.

Once you're happy with the placement, you're ready to turn this panel into a shaker!

Create a Shaker Card Pocket Using Leftover Packaging

Here's where the fun begins!

Instead of building up layers of foam adhesive, we're going to use leftover clear packaging to create a shaker pocket. This is one of my favorite ways to make shaker cards because it keeps the bulk to a minimum.

Start by using your ink-blended panel as a guide. Trim a piece of clear packaging so that it's approximately 3/4 inch larger than your panel on all four sides. You can always trim down the excess later. Next, add double-sided tape along each edge on the back of your ink-blended panel. Place the panel face down onto the clear packaging, making sure it's centered.

Working one side at a time, remove the backing from the double-sided tape and fold the excess packaging over onto the back of the panel. Continue this process around the edges, but be sure to leave one side open so we can add our shaker elements.

This creates a clear pocket around the entire panel without the need for extra layers of cardstock or foam.

Make Your Own Custom Shaker Mix

Now it's time to fill our shaker!

For this project, I wanted to create a custom mix that coordinated perfectly with the colors in my apple frame.

I'm using the Circle Confetti Die to cut my shaker elements from three colors of cardstock:

I love being able to customize the colors of my shaker elements to match the rest of my card. It's also a great way to use up those smaller cardstock scraps!

Once you have your confetti die cut, add the pieces through the open end of your shaker pocket. When you're happy with the amount of confetti inside, remove the backing from the remaining double-sided tape and fold the final flap of packaging over to seal everything inside.

Give your shaker a little shake to make sure everything moves around freely!

Assemble Your Apple Shaker Card

With the shaker pocket complete, it's time to bring everything together.

Adhere your ink-blended Apple Frame using liquid glue directly to the front of the shaker pocket, positioning it around your stamped sentiment. The colorful apples create a beautiful focal point while the coordinating confetti adds a fun, interactive element to the design.

Finally, attach your completed shaker panel to a folded card base. And just like that, you have a colorful apple-themed shaker card!

A Fresh Look at the I Pick You Collection

I always enjoy finding new ways to use products that have been in my collection for a while. Sometimes all it takes is changing up the technique to give a familiar design a completely different look!

The Apple Frame Die and Stencil Bundle is beautiful on its own, but turning it into a shaker card adds an extra element of fun. Plus, creating your own confetti mix makes it easy to coordinate your shaker with any color palette you choose.

I hope this inspires you to revisit a favorite product in your own craft room and try something new with it.

Thanks so much for joining me today! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and feel inspired to give this easy shaker card technique a try.

Happy crafting!
