January My Monthly Hero Countdown: Idea #5 + Giveaway!
Welcome back to the countdown to the release of the January My Monthly Hero Kit! Release day is Monday, January 7th at 1pm Eastern/10am Pacific. Let's join Caly for another look at this sweet kit!
For today's card, I aimed to create a sidewalk chalkboard sign. I started by using the ornate sign die from this month's kit and die-cutting it from kraft cardstock. To give it some dimension/shading, I inked around it by flicking ink around the outer edges using a Stamping Sponge. If you're not aware of what Stamping Sponges are, I recommend you looking it up! I know it's not popular, but I really reach for it often when adding color to the outer edges of die-cut elements like I did on this card. You can cut a round sponge into many pieces (like a pizza) to stretch its use.
Using black cardstock, I cut the sign's center and lightly blended around it also with some White Dye ink. White pigment ink could be used as well, but I didn't want to have to apply more heat to the cardstock since I was already planning to emboss over it. The sentiment and heart outlines were embossed using Versamark ink and white embossing powder to give it the chalkboard look. I also stamped the hearts centers using white dye ink to give it a more chalk-like look.
The images are stamped using Intense Black ink and colored with Copic markers (E21, E25, G24, G03, Y15, V15, V19, RV11, R85, C1, C2, C5). I also colored the bottom of a white cardbase using the C-Copic colors to create a sidewalk for the the standing chalkboard sign. After coloring, I die cut the images and worked on the card's construction.
I adhered the entire sign to craft foam before adhering it to the cardbase to give it more dimension. It was time to decorate my card with the Copic-colored elements to give this card some color and interest with the flower-shop images.
I hope this card gives you wonderful ideas for uses using the new January My Monthly Hero Kit. Thanks so much for joining me today!

So dang cute!
Hi Caly. You’ve made a sweet card. My mom would have loved this version with the chalkboard sign. I, myself, like seeing everyone’s interpretation of a single kit.
Thank you for the stamping sponge technique I’ll have to try that. I like the technique you used. It did add a nice demention to the chalk board sign!
Such a fun card! I like the chalkboard sign look and those containers and flowers.
