Holiday Cards for Dog Lovers
Although only a few of us will be lucky enough to receive a real puppy for Christmas, we can all make and send dog themed cards at the holidays. Today, I’m sharing a pair of puppy inspired cards made with the new Merry Woof stamp set that are sure to bring a smile.
To make my first card, I started by making a circle mask, from removable paper tape, with one of the Nesting Circle Infinity Dies. I positioned the mask over a trimmed panel of Dove White cardstock and then I inked over the mask with Green Apple Reactive ink. Before removing the mask, I splattered the inked area with water from a small brush. Then, I secured the panel to a card base that I made from Meadow cardstock.
I decided to embellish the background circle with some holiday greenery. The new Build A Tree stamp set has a wonderful selection of images that can be used to make custom wreaths, trees, and garlands. I embossed six, assorted pine branches on Meadow cardstock and I stamped some holly berries with Strawberry Bold ink on white cardstock. After using the Build A Tree Frame Cuts to quickly cut around each image, I secured the pieces in two places along the edge of the circle with Precision Glue.
To create an irresistible focal point, I stamped an adorable dog and an ornament from the Merry Woof stamp set with Intens-ified Black ink on white cardstock. Not surprisingly, the most difficult part of making this card was deciding which of these cute puppies to use. These dog images are so versatile, I’m already looking forward to making valentines and birthday cards with them in the new year.
I colored the images with colored pencils and I used the coordinating Merry Woof Frame Cuts to cut around each image. Then, I added shadows behind the images by using each image’s frame cut to cut the same shape from Pitch Black cardstock. After securing the shadows to the back of each image, I secured them to the card with foam tape. I finished the card with one of the punny sentiments from the Merry Woof set and also a trio of Neutrals Enamel Dots.
While I still had my supplies out, I made a second card. For this card, I inked the background circle with Blue Hawaii Reactive ink and I embossed snowflakes from the Build A Tree set onto Lapis cardstock. I also made a card base from Lapis cardstock. By simply using different colors, different images, and a different sentiment, it was so easy to create a similar but unique card very quickly.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope that you love these “howliday” dog stamps as much as I do! Happy crafting!
