Sweet Cardmaking Inspiration with the Spellbinders Make It & Bake It Collection

Hello crafty friends! It’s Lisa Tilson, and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog with you today. I’m here to share some inspiration with the Make It and Bake It Collection. This is a really sweet and fun collection, which mostly consists of die sets that cover all manner of things related to baking. There is also a 3D embossing folder and some punny sentiments in the form of a clear stamp set. I had fun making these cards – the sets are so well thought through and very interchangeable. I love that the collection includes some flowers that can be added to mixing bowls, baking tools, your apron, and mixer, for example, to really “prettify” your designs! So, let’s get into the cards.

Because You’re The Cherry On Top

For this card, I am using the Made With Love Etched Dies, which feature an apron and baking gloves as well as a flower, cookie, and cupcake. There is also a “Made With Love” sentiment die in this set.

1. I began by die-cutting the apron from Seaside, Waterfall, and Teal Topaz ColorWheel Cardstock. I adhered the pieces together using Bearly Art Glue, apart from the pocket on the front, which I popped up with some White Foam Squares.
2. Next, I die cut the flower from Tutu Cardstock. You cut the flower die twice and layer it up to create the full flower. The leaves were die cut from Rainforest and Peridot.
3. I wanted to include some smaller flowers as well, so I took the Mini Guitar Etched Dies (love this set!) and die cut some of the flowers from Wild Berry and Blush with Beeswax for the flower centres. I also die cut the leaves from this set from Rainforest and Peridot.
4. I adhered them all with liquid glue and set them to one side.

5. I thought it would be sweet to include a sentiment from Fountain Wishes Sentiments BetterPress Plate and Die Set, and so I foiled the plate onto Classic White Cardstock using Opaque Black Glimmer Hot Foil and the Glimmer Hot Foil System.
6. The sentiments were cut out with the coordinating die, and I cut an extra layer from white card so that I could adhere two layers of my sentiment together for stability.
7. Of course, I then needed to add some cherries into the mix! So, I took the Fountain Wishes Etched Dies and die cut the cherry and stem twice from Poppy and Rainforest cardstock. I adhered them onto the pocket with liquid glue.

8. To add some pretty detail to my background, I took an A2 panel of Classic White cardstock and ran it through my Platinum 6 Die Cutting Machine with the largest die from Perfect Touch Rectangles and Tag Etched Dies.
9. I adhered the panel onto a side-folding A2 white note card.
10. The apron was added on top using White Foam Squares.
11. I then adhered all the little flowers and leaves “on the diagonal” using either Bearly Art Glue or small pieces of White Foam Square.
12. I finished by adding my sentiment using White Foam Squares. I also added a gem from Spectrum AB Color Essential Gems onto the centre of the bow to give the card the tiniest bit of sparkle!

Have The Sweetest Birthday

My next card uses the Magic Mixer Etched Dies and the Cool It Cookie Rack Etched Dies.

1. I started off by die-cutting almost all of the dies from the Magic Mixer Etched Dies. I used Seaside, Waterfall, Blush, Truffle, and Fawn for the bowl and cookie mix.
2. For the hand mixer, I used Blush, Tutu, Wild Berry, Anchor, Fawn, and Truffle. The whisk die was cut from Silver Assortment Treasured Cardstock (Brushed Metallic).
3. Note: There are two dies which cut small pieces of cardstock that you can adhere behind the lines on the mixer to give them some extra colour. I used a small piece of double-sided tape to glue my little heart in place.

4. The cookies and flower are from Cool It Cookie Rack Etched Dies. I die cut them from Fawn, Blush, Tutu, Seaside, and Classic White.
5. I adhered all the pieces together with Bearly Art Glue.
6. Next, I took an A2 panel of Classic White cardstock and ran it through my die-cutting machine with the largest die from Linear Touch Rectangles and Tag Etched Dies. This was then adhered onto an A2 horizontal top-folding white note card.
7. My bowl was popped onto the panel using liquid glue, and the mixer added with some White Foam Squares. The cookies were added with a mix of both liquid glue and foam squares.

8. My sentiment comes from (the very handy!) Fountain Wishes Sentiments BetterPress Plate and Die Set. It was foiled with Opaque Black Foil and cut out with the coordinating die. I die cut an extra layer to sit behind it and then added it with some wet adhesive.
9. To finish the card, I popped some Crystal Mix Gems into the centres of the cookies and flower.

Nothing A Little Cookie Dough Can’t Cure

For my third and final card, I used the Cool it Cookie Rack Etched Dies and the Sugared Expressions Clear Stamp Set. I love a grid-style card and often look for opportunities to make one! I thought these sweet cookies would work well for that format.

1. I took the Cool It Cookie Rack Etched Dies and cut the main cookie shapes from Fawn ColorWheel Cardstock.
2. Using a Blending Brush, I blended some Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink around the edges to darken them a little bit.
3. For the circular and flower-shaped cookies, I die cut the middle-sized die from Classic White cardstock. I thought this would serve as my white icing.
4. I then die cut the detail circle, and flower dies from Blush, Tutu, Seaside, and Waterfall, and added them on top.

5. For the hearts and star, I die cut the “icing” again from white card. Then it was time for some glitter!
6. I added liquid glue onto each of the white heart and star die cuts and then sprinkled Ranger Distress Stickles Rock Candy Dry Glitter over them and left them to dry. I love using glitter in this way. You can create a much more uneven texture than if you use glitter cardstock. The sparkle in real life is fabulous!
7. I popped some White Foam Squares onto the back of each of the cookies and set them to one side whilst I made the rest of the card.
8. My background panel is created from die-cutting the scalloped rectangle die from Bow and Bell Scallop Frame Etched Dies. I adore the pretty scalloped detail around the edge!

9. I popped it into my MISTI and stamped a sentiment from Sugared Expressions Clear Stamp Set onto it using Versafine Onyx Black Ink, and it was then adhered onto an A2 panel of Waterfall Cardstock. This was then added to a side-folding A2 white note card.
10. I eyeballed the grid layout and popped all the cookies in place. Even though I eyeballed the layout, I did start by adding the three cookies in the vertical centre column. It was then pretty easy to add the rest.
11. To finish, I added some Crystal Mix Color Essential Gems onto a few of the cookie centres.
