Let’s Celebrate with Simon Hurley’s Birthday Bash Collection

Hello Crafters! Nancy Leppek here from Scrapper at Heart.com and I could not be more delighted to be back as a guest here on the Spellbinder’s Blog today! I am sharing three different Celebratory cards using the brand new incredible Birthday Bash Collection by Simon Hurley. I love every piece in this collection and had a ball making these three cards to share with all of you. Let’s get to it, shall we!

May All Your Wishes Come True

Nothing says birthday more than balloons and let me just say that these balloons are the prettiest ones I have ever worked with. For my first card, I am using the  Party Balloons 3D Embossing Folder and the Layered Party Balloon Stencil. You can also get these two items as a BUNDLE if you wish. Here are the steps I took to make this card.

• I embossed a piece of Brushed White Cardstock- 4.25” x 5.5” using the Party Balloons 3D Embossing Folder.
• Using three colors of Oxide inks; Wilted Violet, Peacock Feathers, and Kitsch Flamingo and the coordinating Layered Party Balloon Stencil and Blending Brushes I inked up the balloons.
• Using the fourth stencil and some Distressed White Texture Paste from Ranger I stenciled the highlights on the balloons.
• Using Matte Gold Foil I foiled the sentiment which comes in the Birthday Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Then cut it out with the matching dies. This is a must to add to your collection! I always layer my sentiments at least twice as I like them to be more sturdy.
• Trimming down the panel just a bit on all sides, I matted the panel with a piece of Gold Glitter Paper and Bearly Art Glue.
• I finished off the card with various-sized dots of Gold Glitter Paper from various dies I have in a dish on my desk, this technique seems to be my signature style.

Next up, I have a shaker card for you using the  Mylar Balloons Etched Dies and the  Plaster 3D Embossing Folder. Shakers are fun to make and definitely take a bit more time, especially the way I choose to make them. Instead of using foam tape for my height, I cut out multiple layers of the image to obtain the thickness I am trying to achieve. I want the card to look good from the side as well as the top and don’t think that that is the case when using foam tape.

• I embossed a piece of Brushed White Cardstock-4.25” x 5.5” using the Plaster 3D Embossing Folder. The folder embosses so well and looks like real plaster.
• I built the 3 shaker elements using the Mylar Balloons Etched Dies. I have at least 7 layers for each shaker. I used Spellbinder’s card stock; Sunkissed, Fruit Punch, Lagoon, and a piece of acetate for the window. This was a bit trickier than normal as the edge of the balloons are very thin. Bearly Art Glue made the job much easier with its ultra-fine tip.
• Using Matte Gold Foil, I foiled the sentiment that comes in the Birthday Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plus cut it out with the matching dies. I always layer my sentiments at least twice as I like them to be more sturdy.
• The string and streamers were cut out next using the same 3 colors of card stock and a bit of Gold Glitter Paper.
• I filled the shakers with the Buttons Galore and More Star Gazer Mix assembled my shakers and my card front with Bearly Art Glue.
• I backed my card panel with the same color of card stock-Lagoon and Bearly Art Glue.

Happy Birthday To You

For my final card, I have used the Birthday Bash Petter Press Plate. This plate has fun images that would look fabulous in any color.   I decided that it was time to relax a bit and bring out my Prisma Colored Pencils that I have been neglecting. It is a medium I enjoy and don’t do often enough.

• I foiled the Birthday Bash Petter Press Plate and the birthday sentiment in Matte Gold Foil.
• The plate is very large so I trimmed the panel down using the A2 Matting Basics so I knew exactly what parts needed to be colored.
• Colored with Prisma Colored Pencils
• I matted the panel with a piece of Gold Glitter Paper and Bearly Art Glue.
• I somehow messed up the sentiment that I first foiled when I was coloring (I guess), so I foiled another one and cut it down in strips to hide my mistake. I popped the sentiment up with Foam Squares. I actually like it even better now. The new Guillotine Trimmer makes this a breeze!
• I finished off the card with leftover dots of Gold Glitter Paper that I used on card #1.
