How to Create a Layered Thank You Card with Dies – Step-by-Step Tutorial

Hello there, Michelle Short here to share a step-by-step tutorial with you using the new Layered Thank You Etched Dies from the Essentially Yours Sentiments Collection. There are eight sentiments in the collection, all with two layers – the word itself and the shadow. I love it when there are shadow layers with the sentiments. It means that you can use the word on its own or with the shadow, which makes the sets more versatile. Today I am using the Thank You with both the word and shadow layers.

DIE-CUTTING & ASSEMBLING THE SENTIMENT

Die cut Layered Thank You Etched Dies: Please Note: the dies are shown in the photo facing upwards, so that you can see which die is cut from which cardstock. When die cutting, you need to have the cut side facing down onto the cardstock.

1. Place the thank you word die face down onto Raven ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
2. Place the thank you shadow die face down onto Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.

TIP: Holding dies down using a low-tack tape, like Best Ever Craft Tape, stops them from shifting when running through the die cutting machine.

3. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine using the following sandwich (bottom to top):

• A Platform Base
• B Platform Top
• C Cutting Plate
• Cardstock with die on top
• C Cutting Plate

4. Remove cardstock from die and repeat so that you have two die cuts for each layer of die.

5. Using the Precision Tool, pop out inside pieces of word die cuts.

6. Add small dabs of Bearly Art Glue on the back of one of the thank you words die cuts.

7. Adhere to the other thank you word die cut.

8. Use the edge of the Precision Tool to remove cardstock fibres from the side of the die cuts. This is easier to do when two are adhered together as it adds stability to the die cut.

9. Add glue onto the back of one of the shadow die cuts.
10. Adhere on top of the other shadow die cut.

11. Add glue onto the back of the word die cut.
12. Adhere onto the shadow piece.

TIP: Stacking die cuts (one on top of another) adds dimension to the sentiment and gives it more impact, but this step is completely optional.

DIE-CUTTING THE FLOWERS & ASSEMBLY

1. Using the same die cutting process that you used for the sentiment, die cut flower from Gorgeous You Florals Etched Dies from Seaside, Waterfall, and Teal Topaz ColorWheel Cardstock.
2. Die cut stem and leaves Gorgeous You Florals Etched Dies from Peridot ColorWheel Cardstock.
3. Repeat process to cut three flowers and three stems/leaves.

4. Adhere bottom petal of flower (cut from Waterfall cardstock) onto base layer of flower (cut from Teal Topaz).

5. Adhere top petal piece (cut from Waterfall cardstock) onto base layer.

6. Adhere petals cut from Seaside cardstock on top.

7. Using scissors, cut leaves off stems from two of the die cuts. Leave one intact.

8. Add Barely Art Glue to the back of the stem piece (do not add glue to the leaves) and adhere to card.
9. Add glue to the back of one of the flowers.

10. Adhere flower behind one of the leaves and on top of the other.

I like to use tweezers here to get the placement of the flower where I want it. I can then use my other hand to lift up the leaf to add the flower below.

11. Using the sentiment as a guide, adhere another flower next to the first one (note: you will cover up the other leaf).
12. Adhere the last flower towards the bottom right of the sentiment.

13. Adhere two leaves between flower two and three.

14. Adhere leaf between flowers one and two, popping underneath.

TIP: Using liquid glue to adhere the elements means that you have some time to lift them up and move them before the glue dries.

15. Adhere last leaf next to flower three.

ADHERE SENTIMENT + EMBELLISH

1. Add glue to the back of the sentiment.

TIP: Don’t worry what the middle of the flowers and leaves look like at this point on the card as the sentiment will cover them!

2. Adhere sentiment to card.

3. Adhere Silver Mix Color Essentials Gems around the flowers using the Precision Tool.

These sentiments can be used with lots of other sets that you already have in your stash. I am always partial to flowers though, and by adding the sentiment on top of the flowers, it makes it part of the focal point. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today, I hope you have a wonderful day!
