Video: Holiday Garland with Hero Arts Dies
Good morning! Emily Midgett here with you today with a video showing how I used the new DIY Ornament Kit to create a simple, but very effective, holiday garland that would be perfect to bedeck your fireplace mantel, window, or even your Christmas tree. You can watch it below:
If you are having trouble viewing the video, please try watching it here over on YouTube.
In case you can't watch the video, I will share a few of the tips that I've found to work well with the two shapes of die. For the 5 point star, I found that if you fold the long half of each score line towards you, then flip the die cut over and fold the short line with the fold pointed towards you, you will achieve a nice crisp 3D effect.
For the larger, 8 point star, I found that folding the long lines with the fold pointed towards you, then flipping the die cut over and folding the short lines towards you will achieve crisp 3D results.
To create the garland, I simply attached the stars using some gold glitter clothes pins onto some of the red twine, which is included in the kit. The kit includes some lovely, lightweight shimmer papers that are perfect for this technique. They feature a coating that does not crack when folded, but also has a nice, sturdy feel to it.
One of my favorite attributes of these dies is their substantial size; they are quite large, and would make beautiful (not to mention economical) Christmas ornaments. Sometimes, you just want a new look on your Christmas tree, and these would be perfect for creating a clean, simple look on your tree. I think they would look lovely paired with some white lights, silver beads, and some twinkling tinsel.
Well, that's all for me today! I hope you were inspired to add some handmade paper crafts to your holiday decorating! I love the homey touch handmade decor adds to my home. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous week!
