Video: Color Layering Partridge Cards | Color Layering With Yana Series

Welcome back to the 3rd episode of the Color Layering with Yana video series! In each one of my monthly videos I explore different ink pad and embossing powder color options for Hero Arts Color Layering sets and will hopefully inspire you to stamp! In this post and video I'm taking a closer look at the Color Layering Partridge set and I have 3 unique (classic I should say) color combos (and 2 Holiday cards) to share.

Hero Arts suggested color combo for this stamp set is Pumpkin Pie, Just Rust, Red Royal and Gold embossing powder. I dont have the Just Rust color in my stash, but I have found several other color combos that work really well!

For my first color combo I used Pumpkin Pie, Cup ‘o Joe and Red Royal. I also heat embossed the detail layer using Gold embossing powder. You can skip embossing, but I think it adds a lot of elegance and wow to this image.

For my second color combo I used an ombré ink pad for my base layer - Ombré Autumn; I inked up my stamp so that the darkest color was at the bottom and the lightest at the top. For the detail layers I used Red Royal and Cup o’ Joe. My heat embossing was done in Copper embossing powder and this went really well with the base color of my bird.

For my third color combo I used Vintage Metallic Rust Ombré ink pad, a pigment ink. I love to mix my pigment and my dye inks on one image for unique results. For the detail layers I used Cup o’ Joe and Red Royal; heat embossing was done using Brass embossing powder.

So I used almost the same colors of ink, I just switched them places, used different colors for the base layer of my bird and this gave me different results. These birds come in many different color combinations and some of them have a lot of black and gray to them, you can research the colors of these online, I just go to pinterest and search for “Partridge Photo” and get lots of real life results.

I used black ink to stamp the faces of these birds, I didn't want to use brown as it would have blended in with the other colors I already had, so this is why I picked black.

The coordinating die set for this stamp set has 2 birds - one is just the shape of the bird and the other die is the same bird, but it has feet and and a feather on the bird’s head. So you have options and can die-cut either. I used the one with the feet and feather, cut my images out and later stamped feet and feather to make sure I didn’t stamp them in the wrong place.

To finish these cards I used images from the Partridge and Dimensional Bird sets and also some additional inks from Hero Arts. I blended a blue background panel using Indigo and Navy inks and created a pear wreath on top. I stamped a number of pears using Butter Bar, Caramel and Cup o’ Joe ink, cut them out and arranged in a circle forming a wreath for my card. I also added a number of leaves. I foam mounted one of my birds on top, added “Season’s Greetings” sentiment and embellished my card using Champagne Sequin Mix.

To create the second card I’m sharing today I stamped a pear tree branch background using a branch from the Dimensional Bird set and Cup o' Joe ink. I also added lots of pears stamped in Ombré Light to Red Royal, Red Royal and Cup o’ Joe and leaves stamped in Ombré Lime to Forever Green, Forever Green and Moss. I foam mounted the bird, added a Copper heat embossed sentiment that reads “On The First Day Of Christmas” and embellished this card using Ombré Blush Sequins from Hero Arts.
