Win a Sold Out Kit! Favorites from the Vault Giveaway #3

Hero Arts

Happy Saturday! We're back with our third and final Favorites from the Vault giveaway opportunity!

During a recent warehouse cleaning session, we were happily surprised to find some hidden treasures -- a handful of past kit items. We gathered every last piece from a few select kits, and now you have a chance to win some SOLD OUT My Monthly Hero kit products!

We may have saved the best for last. You decide...

Who remembers the very FIRST My Monthly Hero kit? The month, October...the year, 2015. Who also remembers how quickly that kit sold out? (Back then, there were no My Monthly Hero subscriptions offered.) The beautiful color layered poinsettias came onto the scene and were a smashing hit right out of the gate -- so much so, that the kit sold out in just a few hours and our website experienced some hiccups due to the heavy traffic. We've learned and grown since then, but will never forget the excitement and joy of that very first kit. It holds a special place in our hearts as we now celebrate the MMH program's 5th anniversary with you.

As the ultimate throwback, today we have 5 sets of stamps and dies from the October 2015 kit to give away to 5 lucky winners!

TO ENTER: Comment on this blog post and let us know one piece of stamping wisdom that you wish you'd known when you started stamping! The entry deadline is Thursday, October 29 at 11:59pm PT. We will announce the 5 randomly chosen winners here on the blog.

Now we get to announce the winners from last weekend's Favorites from the Vault giveaway!

The 5 randomly chosen winners will each receive stamps and dies from the sold out October 2018 kit:

• Stephanie Benoit
• Julia Dvorak
• Mary Gilmer
• Tracy Kent
• Sandy Koca

Congratulations to all! Please send an email to info@heroarts.com to claim your prizes and include "Vault Winner" in the subject line.

Last but not least, we want to remind you that time is running out on our classic kits sale. Celebrate 5 years of My Monthly Hero with $5 off a fabulous selection of classic kits, while supplies last! The sale price ($29.99) is reflected automatically in your shopping cart -- no code needed. This offer expires October 31. Check out all eight of the classic kits on sale here.

Thanks for stopping by and celebrating our anniversary with us. Wishing you a lovely weekend!

One of my favorite past kits 💕 all things Christmas! Oh how I wish I’d have gotten more familiar with all the tools and quality companies before buying so much of what I did. I do a lot more research first now.😁

  • Anastasia Misura

I wish I would have heard of the MISTI when it first came out. That has been a total game changer by being able to stamp an image out multiple times without eye-balling it and potentially ruining your whole project.

  • Wahnita Hammond

Stamping wisdom that I wish I knew when I started…..would be how much easier it is to use clear stamps than the wood block rubber stamps. Of course it would have also been great to know how much it was going to be an addiction!! It has all been worth it though!

Thank you so much for doing this giveaway and the opportunity to participate! I wish I would have known that I could actually color on my stamps with a colored marker to stamp in different colors instead of always using black! This is such a great idea for beginners that are just starting out with very limited supplies. I have really enjoyed the My Monthly Hero kits that I have purchased and look forward to seeing what you have planned for the future!

I adore this poinsettia stamp kit! I’ve been looking for a better or equal poinsettia image since I missed out on this kit, and I have not found one that I liked even nearly as much! Wish me luck in winning the contest for a set – I would treat it with care and happiness!
The very best tip I have ever seen, beginner or not, is the dryer sheet trick with dies! Run the die and paper through your Big Shot or equivalent, then take 4 dryer sheets and fold in half to get a thickness of 8 sheets, take paper and die together and place the sandwich on top of the dryer sheets with paper side down (die facing up) and run entire sandwich through your Big Shot again. Remove the sandwich from machine, and gently peel paper away from die. The result is just wonderful!

What I wish I had known when I first started stamping about 40 years ago was to make two cards or take a picture of the card so that you can keep it for a sample when you are running out of ideas. Also making 2 or more identical cards the at same time is so much quicker since you have the idea and supplies out on the table.

Like many people on here, I would have been very happy to know that the Misti was on the far horizon! However, for me it was not so much a problem with stamping in the early days, the trickiest bit was learning how to use a die cutting machine – I was totally baffled by all those different sandwich systems for the different types of die and embossing folders! Only after many fails did the fog finally begin to lift, and I’m so glad I persevered. Luckily we now have many how-to videos and blogs to help us make sense of it all. Thank you for your kindness and generosity – it is very much appreciated!

The one piece of stamping wisdom that I wish I known when I started stamping would have been join a stamping group right away. For the longest time my mom and I would sing up for Paper Source holiday car demo. That was fun and got are feet wet in the world of stamping, but felt limited in the things I wanted to do. It was not until I joined a crafting group on facebook is when my world of stamping possibility opened up and got exposed to all the wonderful info that was out there.

I wish I would have known the differences in inks. I actually used a basic black ink on a circle of wood and other media and it bled all over everything. I quit stamping; and then learned about StazOnInks and the differences between alcohol, water based and pigment inks. I always have to stumble before I perfect it which always caused me a lot of waste.
Thanks so much for being so generous. I LOVE your products!!!

I am still learning. I read some of the other comments and it is consoling to see other people made the same mistakes. I definitely would have liked to know better about paper, how much the quality matters – and what you want to use it for. And the differences of inks, what ink to use with what coloring. And simply just how to press and ink a stamp (There was a video with Tim Holtz joking “you don’t need to give a cpr” and I blushed watching it, guess why ;-) ). I had to improve my english (I am german) to get more out of you tube videos (without them I probably would have stopped anyway, they help so much, but most are english). And about cutting devices. I wasted so much money on these. What I still find difficult, is not to get overwhelmed by the mass of products that are in the market. Therefore I am glad I found a great company like yours, great quality and you answer questions to your products. I just got the poinsettia christmas tree so this old kit would fit percectly.

Literally hundreds of dollars and many “last” nerves tweaked lol I slowly but surely found my way. There are many good products and sadly many poor one. I have navigated my way right to my favorite place, I call my “home” of stamping. None other than our family company Hero Art! Thank u always! May I also add. For beginners watch out for the company’s that “steal” and sell junk. That will quickly turn u off of paper crafting!

Love this! This is everything a kit should be…great coordinating pieces, beautiful colors, perfect stamp & dies.
In the beginning, I wish I would have known that just staring is the best thing you can do. Just start. You can’t find your way, your technique, your creativity, your preferences or improve on any of them if you don’t first start. Invest in quality products from the very beginning. You cannot expect to reproduce a beautiful card that you see without quality paper, ink, adhesive and stamps. They all seemed so expensive when I first began and I still have a few of my first cards in my stash. They do not compare with the cards I make now. I do not have any of the old paper, ink adhesives and only very few stamps from my original purchases. I thought I was stamp challenged until I took a class and saw what a difference quality makes!

Something I have learned along the way, been nice to have known beforehand, when first using stamps that if you use an embossing/clear ink before a colored ink- not only will it stamp nicer/fuller; but also will come clean easier (not as much staining)

The Misti is the obvious answer! But I got one of those early on. But my wisdom comes from lining up the stamp and trying once on a plastic grid sheet to see if it is straight. When I started stamping in the mid-90’s there were no dies or die cutting machines, a MISTI, clear stamps, a wide variety of inks and on and on – I only had Hero Arts stamps on wood blocks and I became very frustrated with stamps because I am rather a perfectionist and had a hard time stamping. Then later on came Jennifer McGuire and Shari Carroll and I fell in love with stamping again and as the years went by I have never looked back. So new stampers – enjoy all the wonderful variety of stamps today, the tools, the many stampers who share their talents with you, the challenges that spark your creativity and all the other fantastic things this hobby can bring to your life. One last bit – designing cards every day has been my savior during this 2020 covid-t9 time.
