United As One: Product Release + Videos!

Jul 20, 2020 Hero Arts

Hello and welcome! Today we are celebrating two special new releases, and kicking off a week dedicated to sharing creations using these stamps. We invite you to join us in celebrating, encouraging and lifting up togetherness, diversity and inclusion.

First, we'd love to introduce you to United As One.

Dana Joy, Pocono Pam and Hero Arts are excited to partner in a conscious effort to be intentionally diverse and inclusive. Crafters and cardmakers of color need to feel support, appreciation, and respect when expressing their values, experiences and skin tone in their work. We are celebrating this spirit through unity, and this collaboration is a pathway for everyone to see themselves in their art. We hope the United As One stamp set will encourage makers to become interested and committed to listening and learning from and about each other, and recognize we are all one, united creative community. 100% of net profits from this 6" x 8" stamp set will be donated to racial justice charities selected by Dana and Pam.

The United As One set is just the beginning. More stamps and dies will be added to our new Unity collection in the very near future!

Next, we have We Stand With You from The Stamping Village.

As a group reflecting our larger community, The Stamping Village believes speaking up and speaking out is required when racial, social, and economic injustice exists. Standing up is a vital part of supporting all members of society and the only path towards healing. Standing together, we are committed to listening, learning, and change. As part of a pledge by The Stamping Village to donate $10,000 for racial justice, 100% net profits from every We Stand With You  6" x 8" stamp set sold will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund.

Hero Arts Creative Team member Daniel West is here today to introduce you to both of these sets...

Hey there everyone! Daniel here to introduce these two exciting stamp sets to you! How exciting to see two of the most fantastic ladies, Dana Joy and Pocono Pam, designing a stamp set with Hero Arts! And what a huge heart Hero has for unity and healing, evidenced through this effort.

You can catch all the details for my cards in the videos below. I do want to just share some extra tidbits about them that I want to highlight here!

For the first stamp set, working with Hero Arts inks, I used Soft Vanilla and Cup O' Joe inks. The Soft Vanilla ink actually dries back a lot less yellow than it may appear at first. I recommend trying it out! The Cup O' Joe works beautifully for a darker skin tone, and can be combined with Caramel for a different look altogether.

It's fantastic that this stamp set has provoked a conversation about skin tone inks. As we work to intentionally include people of many different colors, a set of inks reflecting this effort could go a long way in representing the diversity of our community, and is being worked on for a future release.

(If you are having trouble viewing this video, please try watching it HERE on YouTube.)

For the second set of projects, I used Hero Arts' contribution to The Stamping Village We Stand With You stamp set. The image doesn't take up a lot of real estate, so I created two different television screens with the people. One scene harkens back to the 60's protests for racial justice and the other to 2020.

Check out the video I did for all the details.

Thank you for joining me today on the blog and YouTube! I hope you enjoyed these projects and invite you to stand with Hero Arts and The Stamping Village to highlight the need for unity, intentionality and healing. I hope you have a fantastic week!

The cards are EVERYTHING. Thank you for all of your talents! I am a white woman with two mixed race children. This stamp set means a lot to all of us! I have been coloring black mermaids and black batmen since they were babies because no one else was producing crafts that they identified with. Thankfully progress, education and change can be made. The future looks bright.

A thoughtful and beautiful pair of sets. I did notice, however that there are no Asian faces.

I am thrilled to see this collaboration which brings us much needed stamp images, but more importantly the message which needs to resonate in all businesses, not just the crafting world. We REALLY are all in this together, equally, and standing up for each other is the right course of action. THANK YOU!

I really appreciate — and like — the stamp set by Hero Arts and agree that having a collection of inks that reflect various skin tones would be a great idea. Looking forward to when that comes out. THANK YOU, Hero Arts for expanding into a more diverse line. Listening to the recent conversations in the crafting community, I attempted to modify a couple of stamp sets and color people in the images with color. These are Christmas cards that will be donated and distributed to people I don’t know. It didn’t dawn on me before that a card might be received by a person of color who would prefer to see an image that more reflects him/her. I’m hoping some upcoming Christmas stamps will be more reflective of diversity as well. Again, thank you, Hero Arts.

It’s heartening to see the theme of these sets as “unity” & “all as one” – we don’t have to be the same across the board to support & love each other. No ‘one’ should be promoted above all. Dana & Pam thank you for making your voice heard respectfully and your artwork is outstanding, thank you for sharing! Looking forward to seeing future collaborations :-)
