September My Monthly Hero Countdown: Idea #4 + Giveaway!

We're back for another post as we count down to the release of the September My Monthly Hero Kit! Release day is Tuesday, September 4th at 1pm Eastern/10am Pacific. For something a little different, this card was created by our product designers rather than our Creative Team...

For today's card, we had a ton of fun combining the September My Monthly Hero kit with a cool product that you can find at many retailers - Chibitronics! The Chibitronics paper circuit pieces are not included in this month's kit, but since the theme of the kit is the lantern plant, we were inspired to use it!

We began by embossing the lantern plant and vase in gold embossing powder. The plate image was embossed with the new red embossing powder, which is an optional add-on to this month's kit. Then we watercolored with the fun little Daniel Smith dot palette that's part of the kit!

The die for this branch of lantern plant has one little area that is cut away, allowing you to highlight the red berries that form inside the lantern plant. Or as we did here - light it up like an actual lantern! We built the circuit by following the instructions included with the Chibitronics pieces. Another fun kit element this month is a set of maple leaf sticky notes! We cut off a piece of one, and placed it behind the cut out lantern plant to give the Chibitronics light a reddish glow.

Here's an image of the glowing plant! If you visit our Instagram account today (HERE), you'll be able to see a short clip of the light-up feature!

Win a kit before you can buy it! Just leave a comment on this (and every) Countdown to Creativity post! We’ll randomly draw one lucky winner from all the comments left across all countdown posts, and announce the winner first thing Tuesday morning, September 4, before the kit launches at 1pm Eastern. The more you comment, the more chances to win!

Thanks for stopping by - keep tuning in for the rest of the countdown!

Fabulous card! I love the contrast of the watercolor against the blocks of color (black & craft) in the background. Too cool to have it light up!
