Dress Up Your Die Cuts | Beary Sweet Halloween Week

It’s Beary Sweet Halloween Week, and we’re celebrating the new Beary Sweet Holiday Collection with a whole week of sweet and spooky inspiration! From playful Halloween cards to clever techniques, videos, reels, an Instagram Hop and more, there are plenty of ideas headed your way.

And we have an extra-special treat: Carly Tee is joining us throughout the week with new video tutorials featuring her Beary Sweet Holiday designs. Each day, Carly will share a project along with tips and techniques you can use to add a little extra something to your own Halloween creations.

To kick things off, Carly is showing us how she likes to dress up her die cuts with two of her favorite finishing touches: sparkle and shine!

Hi Crafty Friends! Carly here! What are your favorite ways to dress up plain paper die cuts? Maybe a little shading or ink blending? Extra dimension with layers or foam adhesive?

One of my favorite ways to make die cuts feel extra special is to add sparkle and shine, and today I’m sharing a couple of easy techniques for doing just that! I used these techniques to dress up a colorful assortment of sweet Halloween treats for my card.

Start by die cutting and assembling your candy pieces from the Candy Kebob Halloween Add-On Die Set. Place a loop of low-tack tape on an acrylic block—or another surface that is easy to pick up and move—and secure your assembled die cuts on top.

Next, cover the die cuts with a glossy medium like Glossy Accents. Gently tap the acrylic block to help the medium level out, then use a craft pick or tweezers to pop any visible air bubbles.

Set the pieces aside to dry completely. If a little of the glossy medium goes over the edges, don’t worry! Once it’s dry, simply trim away the excess with scissors.

I love how this simple step gives the candies a smooth, shiny finish and a little extra dimension!

For a glittery finish, start by applying double-sided adhesive, like the Spellbinders White Liner Sheets to the top of your cardstock before die cutting.

Die cut and assemble your candy pieces, keeping the top liner paper on the adhesive as you work. Once everything is assembled, remove the liner to expose the adhesive and cover the piece with glitter.

I used this technique to give the pumpkins and kitty plenty of sparkle. Mixing these glittery pieces with the glossy candies adds fun texture and makes all those tiny die-cut details shine.
