Owl and Pine Tree Paper Layering Cards

Creating Holiday cards can be so much fun specially if you add an unexpected detail to them. The Paper Layering dies are quite a unique way to do that, by adding extra dimension to your projects. Today I am sharing two of the cards I made for the 2016 Winter Catalog showing these fabulous Hero Arts products.

My first card features the Paper Layering Owl and Frame. I began by using Cup O'Joe Mid-Tone Shadow Ink and a sponge dauber over a piece of Latte Layering Paper to darken the upper part of it, and I worked towards the bottom part to obtain an ombré effect. When I was happy with the results, I die cut the owl. I carefully folded the cuts from behind, to rise off the paper. I also cut a piece of metallic card stock with the owl frame, and I adhered it behind the owl.

I stamped some branches (Holiday Pine Branches Stamp Set) with Lime to Forever Green Ombré Ink over a Snow Layering Paper card base. I stamped a sentiment as well. To finish off this card, I popped up the owl over the branches and added two brown gemstones as its eyes.

The second card is quite similar, but in this case I die cut the shape directly over a Snow Layering Paper panel. Then, I used another piece of card stock to create a mask. I used this mask to add Green Apple Hybrid Ink over the tree with a sponge dauber. I folded the tree cuts from behind, and with Pine Hybrid Ink, I softly sponged the pine tree branches.

I created a card base from Grenadine Layering Paper, and I stamped the Candy Stripes Bold Prints  with Strawberry Hybrid Ink. I stamped a sentiment (Christmas Messages Stamp Set) with Intense Black Ink below the tree, and I adhered the panel over the card base. I embellished the tree with a golden punched star.

Making these cards for the catalog was a lot of fun, just because the Paper Layering dies are unique and they bring your cards to life. Have you tried these dies yet?

Thanks for joining me today,
