Nativity Stencil: Simplicity at its Best!
Welcome crafty friends! Mindy Eggen here with you today to share inspiration using the Nativity stencil.
This stencil has some delicate areas to it so I'm going to spray the back of the stencil with Pixie Spray which is a low-tack adhesive spray. It will leave the back of the stencil tacky so it won't move when I start to ink blend.
I started with creating a glow behind the city by ink blending Lemon Drop Reactive Ink using a blending brush onto Dove White cardstock. The lighter the touch with the brush, the softer the ink will apply.
Next, I ink blended on Soft Sky ink starting about half way down the card. I'm going to apply the color right up to the point of the Lemon Drop without actually blending into the yellow. If the two mix, it will create green and I didn't want green so I'm being very mindful about how far down I'm blending.
Then starting from the top, I'm going to bring in Cornflower to blend into the Soft Sky and top that off with Navy ink to add intensity to the edge of the sky.
Before removing the stencil, I want to add a bit of shimmer so I'm going to spray some White Iridescent Shimmer Mist over the top.
After the panel is dry, I'll trim it down to 3 3/4" x 5" and add to a white panel trimmed to 4" x 5 1/4" which will then be added to a card base created from Nautical cardstock. I thought the dark colored card base would tie in nicely with the colors used for the sky.
I'm going to stretch my dies a little to create a sentiment. I wanted something very simple yet elegant. I die cut the Joy Ornament Fancy Die with Gold Glitter cardstock and three more times from Dove White cardstock. Then I just trimmed the word Joy out to create my own sentiment. I layered my pieces together with precision glue to give it some dimension.
To finish it off, I stamped a small sentiment from the Victorian Christmas Messages onto Nautical cardstock with embossing ink and heat embossed with gold embossing powder. Then I used the small strip dies from Message Strips Stamp & Cut XL to trim out the sentiment. I love using the message strip dies because it provides a beautiful beveled edge instead of the hard cut from my paper trimmer.
I added this smaller sentiment over the die cut word using foam squares.
