Introducing a New Creative Team Member!

It is a happy day at Hero Arts when we have the pleasure of introducing a new member of the Hero Arts Creative Team. And today is one of those days! Meet Emily Midgett! You will be so inspired by her work and creativity.

Let's get to know Emily:

Hi there! I'm Emily Midgett, and I could not be more ecstatic to be here as the newest Creative Team Member for Hero Arts! A bit about me: I was born and raised in the Midwest. I'm a wife to my redhead and stay at home mom to our twin preschoolers. I have a bachelor's and master's of music, vocal performance emphasis, but now, I mostly sing songs from Trolls, Peg+Cat, and Thomas the Tank Engine. I have always been crafty, dabbling in everything from jewelry making to cake decorating to painting, but my papercrafting obsession began after I got married. I wanted to find the perfect thank you notes and searched high and low to no avail. Frustrated, but sure that I could create exactly what I was looking for, I went to my local craft store and bought my weight in rubber stamps and pale blue ink! Hero Arts was one of the first brands that I loved; their beautiful stamps and stunning array of ink colors (most of which have lasted me the 8 years since I started this hobby) immediately won me over, so it's truly a dream come true to be on this team with such talented company! I enjoy stamping, but my real passion is coloring. I love watercoloring in several mediums, and colored pencils are fast encroaching my watercolors on the top of my list of favorites. I am so grateful to be here, and I hope that I can inspire you.

Let's take a look at Emily's beautiful card:

For my project today, I chose to focus on the beautiful outlined roses in the new Color Layering Rose set that was released in January. No-line coloring with my colored pencils is one of my absolute favorite coloring mediums, because it means that I can fake being able to draw! Ha! I started by stamping the main outline rose image from Color Layering Rose onto some masking paper, then fussy cutting it out. (You could also use a Post-It for this technique; just make sure that you stamp your image on at least part of the sticky portion so that it will stick to your card stock and not shift while you are stamping!) I stamped the rose image once on some Earth Mix Layering Papers using Unicorn White ink, then added my mask over the top and stamped the roses twice more. I used the mask again on all three roses to stamp the foliage outlines, as well. Now, I have a little trick for coloring on colored card stock with Prismacolor pencils: I add a layer of white pencil first, then go over the top like I normally would with the colored-colored pencils, (did that make sense? haha!) then use my blender pencil to smooth everything out. I work petal by petal so that I know where to add the shading. The layer of white helps to keep the colored pencil from "soaking in" to the colored card stock. The coating on the Hero Arts layering papers makes blending pencils on them a breeze, too.

For the greeting, I used the Hello Stamp & Cut set. This line is one of my favorites from Hero Arts... just so classy and SO versatile. I die cut the "hello" three times from Snow card stock, then adhered them together to make a dimensional die cut. I heat embossed the "thinking of you" onto a thin strip of Snow paper using Platinum embossing powder, then flagged the ends and adhered it with dimensional foam adhesive.

After I had finished the main elements of the card, it was time to add some accents. I started by adding a "frame" using a white pencil and my T-square to help ground my rose cluster. As a final touch, I added a smattering of Purple Ombre sequins randomly across the card front to add some sparkle and a bit of texture.

Congratulations, Emily, on becoming a part of the Hero Arts DT family!! Your first card is absolutely gorgeous!! Those roses in the deep purple are stunning and you coloured them beautifully.
