For the Love of Purple!

Apr 15, 2022 Emily Midgett

Hi there! Emily Midgett here with you today, and I have some inspiration using one of the brand new sets from the April release! I was inspired by our fearless leader, the purple-loving Libby, to use lots of different shades of purple on this whimsical Mother's Day Vase image, but I kept the background seamless with lots of white cardstock. Let's get started with the details!

I began by stamping the largest bouquet from the Mother's Day Vase stamp set using Intens-ified Black ink on some white cardstock. I used 5 different shades of purple Copic markers to create this ode to the color lilac. Because the illustration is more whimsical than realistic, I didn't stress too much about adding tons of realistic shading and dimension, instead focusing on intense color for the flowers. I die cut the finished colored image using the coordinating Frame Cuts

When working with white die cuts, my goal is to keep things looking as seamless as possible. Instead of using a colorful cardstock or blended background, I instead used the beautiful Hearts and Blossoms Cover Plate die to add some subtle texture and interest to the white A2 card front. I feel like that white edge around a die cut is super distracting, so I always try to keep things looking seamless by using the same color of cardstock for the background as I do for my die cuts. I adhered the detailed white die cut to a plain white A2 card base using Precision Glue, then added the colored bouquet with some foam adhesive.

For the greeting, I used some more black ink to stamp one of the greetings from Mother's Day Vase on a strip of white cardstock. I used the same shades of purple Copic marker to color the individual letters in a purple ombré, starting with the darkest shade and working my way to the lightest. I backed the white strip with a very slightly larger strip of Pitch Black cardstock to create a super thin mat for the greeting. I used a double layer of foam adhesive to add the greeting over the bouquet. The extra height of the foam tape coupled with the black mat helps to add extra emphasis to the greeting.

Well, that's all for my project today! I hope you enjoyed this card. I certainly enjoyed creating it with all of the fun extra details! Thanks so much for reading, and have a marvelous day.
