Felt Monsters

Did you know that the Hero Arts dies can cut through felt? I love playing with felt! When I saw the Nesting Monsters Fancy Dies, I knew they’d be adorable in felt!

To create a monster, I used the largest monster die, and cut it twice in the same color of felt. I also cut the larger eyes from white felt, and the smaller eyes from black felt to become the centers of the eyes. I hand stitched the smile using black embroidery floss. The eyes were attached in place using Ranger Multi Medium Matte – but any glue that can hold felt will do (I also like to use Beacon Fabri-Tac). While I had my glue out, I also glued together the smaller bits on the monster, including the arms. I am not that great with a sewing machine, so I just glued the parts I knew would be too tricky for me to sew.

With a coordinating felt color, I die cut a heart with the Nesting Hearts Infinity Dies, then stitched on a little “x” using the embroidery floss. After gluing the heart in place, I simply stitched around the perimeter of the monster using my sewing machine. I left a little gap to add the stuffing, then stitched that little gap closed once done with the stuffing. The way I did my sewing means there are a few little knots on the back of my monsters – but that doesn’t bother me. Another way you could do it is blanket stitching by hand – but I wasn’t that patient!

I thought the first one turned out super cute, so I went ahead and made three. These dies are so much fun – I can’t wait to make some monster cards and tags with them as well!
