Embossing with a Cover Plate Die

Jeannie Lieu

Hi crafty friends! It's Jeannie and today, I'm sharing a card that features the Floral Pattern Cover Plate Die from the Friendship Blooms Colleciton. This is such a fun and pretty cover plate, and perfect for a very simple card.

To create this card, I started with a piece of Mist cardstock. Different die cutting machines have different sandwiches, so depending on what you use, you have to find your own sandwich that works. You don't want the die cut to cut through your cardstock; you just want it to leave an impression of the die cut on your cardstock.

The Floral Pattern Cover Plate is so pretty and I really think it looks great embossed as a background. I wanted to add a bit of interest to amp up the dimension on the the Mist cardstock so I pulled out the Hero Hues Core Ink in Summer Sky along with a blending brush to add color to the edges of my panel.

Next, I wanted to incorporate more of that Summer Sky color into this card, so I used a piece of Deluxe Smooth White and swiped the ink on the edges. I also swiped the ink on a larger area of cardstock so I could use cut out the Hello There die sentiment from the Hello There Stamps & Cut. Now we have the brighter pop of blue!

It looks so pretty all together and it's a relatively simple card to make -- no coloring needed! So maybe now, when you take a look at your cover plates, you can stretch its use by doing some embossing for a different look!
