Easy Spiral Pop-Up Card | Beary Sweet Halloween Week

The sweet and spooky fun continues with Beary Sweet Halloween Week! We’re celebrating the new Beary Sweet Holiday Collection with Halloween inspiration all week long, including videos, reels, an Instagram Hop and plenty of playful project ideas.

This week, Carly Tee is joining us with video tutorials featuring her Beary Sweet Holiday designs and lots of clever ways to put them to use. From easy techniques to interactive cards, there’s something new to inspire your Halloween crafting each day.

Today’s project has an extra-special surprise hiding inside! Carly is sharing how to create an interactive spiral pop-up card filled with colorful Halloween candy. It may look complicated when you open the card, but the secret is a simple handmade mechanism that requires just a few basic supplies. Take it away, Carly!

Hi Crafty Friends! Carly here! Are you looking for an extra-special card design to try? I highly recommend a spiral pop-up! It looks complicated, but I promise it is so super easy to put together.

And the best part? You don’t need any special tools to create the interactive pop-up mechanism—just an acetate circle, a pair of scissors and a bunch of cute die cuts!

Check out the video below to see how I create the spiral mechanism, fill it with Halloween treats and bring the whole card together.

First, create lots of paper candy! I made a whole assortment of colorful Halloween treats using the Candy Kebob Halloween Add-On Die Set. I even added glitter to some of the pieces for a little extra sparkle.

Next, create the pumpkin treat bucket using the Bear Hugs Holiday Accessories set. I like to die cut the jack-o’-lantern face from the orange pumpkin and layer another pumpkin cut from black cardstock behind it. You can also keep it even simpler by cutting the face from black cardstock and adhering those pieces on top.

Now for the pop-up! Die cut a circle from acetate, then use scissors to cut around the circle in a spiral. This simple acetate piece is the secret to all that fun movement inside the card.

Adhere the acetate spiral inside the card, attaching one end at a time. Use a little foam tape to adhere the pumpkin treat bucket over the bottom end of the spiral so it looks like all those Halloween goodies are spilling right out of it.

Now comes the really fun part—adding the candy!

Adhere your die-cut treats along the acetate spiral, spacing them out as you go. For areas where both sides of the spiral will be visible, sandwich the acetate between two matching pieces of candy. This keeps the mechanism hidden and makes the treats look great from every angle.

Continue adding candy to the spiral and around the inside of the card until you’re happy with your sweet and spooky mix. When the card is opened, the acetate expands to reveal a trail of treats popping right out of the pumpkin bucket!

Of course, the outside needs a little Halloween fun too! I created an additional A2 panel for the card front and used ink blending to make a simple color-blocked background.

For the greeting, I stamped the curved “hope your day is” sentiment from Sweet Wishes Stamp & Cut and paired it with the large layered Sweet die cut. A few more pieces of candy finish the design and give a little hint of the surprise waiting inside.
