After months of cold temperatures and snow, I’m beyond anxious for warm weather and sunshine. This month’s collection of tropical themed add-on products is exactly that - sun and fun. Today, I’m sharing a pair of cards that I made with the beautiful Island Fruits Bold Prints stamp. The images on this stamp not only make a lovely background, but they can also be used to create striking, tropical focal points on your cards.
To make my cards, I started by making a pair of top-folding card bases with Peony and Meadow cardstock. Then, to create a muted background for each card, I simply stamped the Island Fruits Bold Prints stamp onto trimmed panels of the same cardstock with similar ink colors - Soft Pink and Green Hills. Before securing the panels to the card bases with foam tape, I stamped a “sunny” sentiment from the Sunflower Field HeroScape set onto each one. For the pink card, I stamped the sentiment with Intens-ified Black ink. For the green card, I stamped the sentiment with Clear Embossing & Watermark ink and then embossed it with white embossing powder.
To create focal images for these cards, I stamped the entire Island Fruits Bold Prints stamp onto a square piece of Dove White cardstock with Intens-ified Black ink. Then, I selected the images that I wanted for my cards and colored them with colored pencils. There are plenty of images in this background so it was easy to color enough for both cards. In fact, there are enough images to make three or four cards.
Next, I used scissors to fussy cut around each image, leaving a narrow white edge around each one. I also used a small paper punch to punch a hole in the center of the pineapple ring. I secured one pineapple to each card with foam tape and then secured the remaining items to both cards with Precision Glue. For a final touch, I added a trio of Sunset enamel dots to each card.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. Next time that you use a background stamp, perhaps you might want to explore also making it your focal point. Happy crafting!
