Creating Dimensional Birthday Cake Frosting
Janette Kausen
Hi there, friends! Did you know that September is the busiest birth month in the United States? Specifically, September 9th is the most popular day for singing that very first Happy Birthday tune (Time). Worldwide the busiest month varies year to year, but it generally falls within July, August or September. Given that, I'm a thinkin' I best get crackin' on a few birthday cards!
Create today's card by first piecing together a rainbow base on an A2 Dove White panel with long 1/4" strips of Azalea, Papaya, Kiwi, Paradise and Amethyst. Adhere in place with Precision Glue and then trim the long strips to fit from the back.
Die cut Dancing Music Notes in Dove White and trim it down just enough to create a rainbow border. Adhere music panel flat over colorful base.
Stamp the Color Layering Birthday Cake in Soft Vanilla for the cake itself and any very light shade of ink for the frosting. It will only be used as a guildline. I used Soft Yellow. Die cut and trim off candle flush. Then coat frosting with Crystal Clear Lacquer. Layer on White Puff embossing powder while lacquer is wet and immediately heat with an embossing heat tool. The combo will puff and create a frosting like appearance. Add a second layer of lacquer and embossing powder to outer edge of slice for additional dimension.
Crystal Clear Lacquer and White Puff embossing powder can be purchased together in our Snow & Froth Technique Kit.
Poke candle, stamped in Rose Madder, Butter Bar and Soft Cantaloupe into still warm lacquer. Add a drop of glue midway up the back of the candle for security. Adhere slice over Pitch Black circle and pop on a white detail embossed sentiment.
TIP: The background of this project is a great scrap buster! Imagine all of the color combos you could create!
Happy crafting!
Thought this piece was REAL! This is great!
So fun — and as you said a great way to use up all those pesky scraps. It’s nice to see your dies in action. The music die looks so bright and colorful with the peak of color. Thanks for sharing!!
Sweet! I can almost taste the frosting on the cake. Just love it!
Amazing!!!!
What a fun card! Great way to use the white puff embossing powder from the August 2019 MMH kit for the frosting. Don’t have the cake stamp and die, but definitely will try this with my cupcake stamp and die. Thanks for the inspiration!
