Creating an Elegant Hello Card with Stencils and Dies

Mar 23, 2022 Daniel West

Hey there! Daniel West, here, with a super fun card project featuring the Color Layering Flowers in Vase Stencils! I really enjoy coloring stamped images, but sometimes, I want to just quickly put together a great palette and brush it through a stencil, instead. Hero Arts offers some great Color Layering Stencils for this very reason. For today's card, I put the stamps aside and just used stencils and dies.

To create this card, I gathered the following supplies:

Then, I created a background by embossing the Magnolia Branches Cover Plate Die over a panel of Antique Ivory cardstock. To do this, you just follow the instructions for your die cutting machine to emboss using the proper rubber/silicone mat for your machine instead of cutting plates.

Next, I stenciled the flowers and vase onto a piece of Dove White cardstock with Hero Arts Blending Brushes. I like to use a large sheet of cardstock for this and just line up the bottom left-hand corners of each stencil over the same spot on the paper. This way, you do not have to use the stamp to help you align the image, if you want a no-line look. I used a palette of Ultra Pink, Tangerine, Dandelion and Lime Green inks.

After that, I die cut my stenciled image out with the coordinating Frame Cuts. I also die cut an oval out with the Oval Woodgrain Infinity Dies. I planned on using the frame, but decided to go with the center piece left over from the die cut instead. I grabbed the next smaller size oval and traced the inside and outside of it with a gold gel pen for some added detail.

Then, I put the card together. I adhered the embossed Antique Ivory panel over a Dove White side-folding card with Precision Glue. I popped up the oval and the flowers on the front with foam tape.

Next, I die cut the word "hello" from the Friend Words Fancy Dies out of Antique Ivory Cardstock three times and stacked them together with Precision Glue. And, I adhered it to the front of the card with glue and foam tape.

To finish it all off, I added some sequins and enamel dots for some bling!

I hope you will give these stencils a try and layer the die cuts up over a dry embossed panel of ivory cardstock! I love the result. Below this post, you will find a grid of supplies for your convenience.

Thank you for joining me today on the blog and have a wonderful day!
