Create an Interactive Card with Moveable Magnetic Charms
Hero Arts
It’s Angela Tombari here, and I am so excited to be a guest on the Hero Arts blog!
Today I’m sharing a colorful and interactive magnetic charm card featuring a fun magnet mechanism, created with the adorable Tiny Treasures Stamps and coordinating dies from the Tote-ally Awesome April collection.
WATCH THE STEP-BY-STEP VIDEO
The Tiny Treasures stamp set is designed to create tiny charm pendants for the tote bag, which is the main element of the collection. But as soon as I saw all these cute little images, I knew I wanted to explore a different idea and turn them into the stars of a project all their own. That’s how this interactive handmade card with magnets came to life.
Check out the video to see exactly how the magnetic mechanism works and how all the tiny charms move!
This card was inspired by a previous project I created in March using the Got Flair? Die Set from the Friends with Flair collection. I loved the idea of showcasing multiple small decorative elements in a playful and eye-catching way, and that earlier design sparked the concept for this interactive card.

I love finding new ways to use stamps beyond their original purpose, and today’s card is a perfect example of creative cardmaking versatility. Instead of attaching the charms to a tote bag, I transformed them into movable decorative elements that hang from a long chain and can be repositioned thanks to hidden magnets.
The result is a playful card with a clean vertical design and lots of tiny details to move and interact with.
create colorful embossed charms
I stamped and white heat embossed almost all the charms from the set onto colored cardstock from my stash, choosing a rainbow-inspired palette that gives the entire design a cheerful yet harmonious look.
The colors I used include: butter yellow, golden yellow, light apricot, terracotta, powder rose, mauve pink, brick rose, dark red, lavender, wisteria, sage, olive, blue, and dark blue.
I chose to stamp directly on colored cardstock because I’m not very confident with coloring—and it’s also a huge time-saver! I simply matched each image to a cardstock shade that felt natural. For example, warmer tones work beautifully for fruits, the ladybug, and the heart, while cooler blues and greens complement the remaining images.
How to assemble magnetic charms
To assemble the magnetic charms, you will create a "sandwich" using two die cut charm pieces—the stamped and embossed charm for the front and a plain one for the back. The magnet in the middle is a very thin magnet that measures 1mm thick and 5mm in diameter. The goal is to have as little bulk as possible between the layers.
Begin by placing a piece of double-sided adhesive on the plain charm die cut. Then adhere magnet and place another piece of double-sided adhesive on the magnet. Apply some liquid glue around the edges of the die cut and on the magnet, then place the embossed charm over the top creating a "sandwich". Press the layers together and hold in place for a few seconds to allow glue to set. The liquid adhesive layer isn't necessary, but it does give you a little extra time to position the die cut and make sure they are lined up.
Repeat this "sandwich" recipe to create all your charms:
- plain die cut charm
- double-sided adhesive
- magnet
- double-sided adhesive
- liquid glue
- embossed charm
To display all 14 charms, I chose a slimline card size using a pale gray cardstock panel measuring 4" x 9". This long vertical layout provides plenty of space for a cascading composition.
At the top, I added the silver hook, then stamped and embossed a flowing chain that gently moves down the panel. The chain stamps are directional—one curves right and one curves left—so alternating them creates a dynamic, natural wave.
For the sentiment, I chose “Have a Charming Day,” which felt absolutely perfect for this project. It’s sweet, playful, and ties beautifully into the charm theme. I stamped it in black and added clear embossing for a subtle glossy finish that enhances the design without overpowering it.
Once the chain was complete, I arranged the charms in rainbow order from top to bottom. Even with many small elements, the structured layout and color organization keep the design clean and eye-catching.
Next, you will need to place another magnet on the backside of this panel to line up with each charm. This is really simple to do as the magnetic force allows the charms to snap together. Place a piece of double-sided tape over each magnet to secure in place and then adhere entire panel to your card base.
To finish the card, I added a few silver embellishments for sparkle and shine. These small details echo the metallic hook and chain, helping create a cohesive look from top to bottom.
From Simple Stamps to Creative Possibilities
What I love most about this card is the combination of color, texture, shine, and movement. It started with a stamp set designed for one purpose and evolved into something completely different. That creative flexibility is one of my favorite things about Hero Arts stamps and cardmaking.
Sometimes the most inspiring ideas come from simply asking: “What else could this become?”
If you love interactive cards, rainbow color palettes, or discovering new ways to use your crafting supplies, I hope this project inspires you to take a fresh look at the Tiny Treasures Stamp Set from the Hero Arts Tote-ally Awesome collection.
Thank you so much to Hero Arts for having me as a guest. It was such a joy to share this project with you. I hope to see you again soon—until then, happy crafting! Ciao!
