A Birthday Under the Trees

Good morning! Emily Midgett here with you today to share some inspiration using one of the new, beautifully intricate dies that was released yesterday as an add-on to the April My Monthly Hero kit. I love these intricate dies, especially, because they can easily stand on their own without much extra done to them, or you can kick it up a notch by adding color or blending and make them really unique! I chose to pair the Tree Arch Fancy Die with the Liquid Watercolors, so let's get started with the details!

I began by die cutting the Tree Arch Fancy Die from some Arches watercolor card stock. I then used Pine, Moss, Black, and Cocoa Hero Arts Liquid Watercolors to add color to the images. I began with a very light, diluted layer of color, gradually adding in more concentrated color as the first layer dried, in order to achieve definition in the leaves. I also used a very fine tip paintbrush to add some grooves in the bark on each of the tree trunks after the initial layer of paint had dried.

For the card base, I wanted to create just the hint of sky and grass, so I used my blending brushes with Fresh Lawn and Pool inks to lightly blend at the top and bottom of my A2 card base. I also added a sentiment from the Mix and Match Compliments stamp set using Intense Black Ink.

Once the background had been completed, I added my watercolored trees to the card base using foam tape. A simple card, but I think it would be great for a masculine birthday card! Men like trees and nature and outdoorsy stuff, right?

Well, that's all for me today! I hope you enjoyed my project! And if you're still on the fence about this month's My Monthly Hero kit, don't hesitate for too long, because once they're gone, they're gone! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous week!
