Watercoloring With the United People Bold Prints
Dana Joy
Hey everyone. It's Dana with you today. My card today features the newly released United People Bold Prints background stamp. I LOVE the design of this image and all the graphic lined faces. Let me share how this card came together.
To begin, I stamped the image onto watercolor paper in Intense Black ink and heat set it with Clear Embossing Powder. I set the panel aside while I built my color palette. Using a large white plate, I mixed several shades of brown, black and warm yellows using Cocoa, Artprint Brown, Dandelion, Pink, Black and White Liquid Watercolors. (If you're interested to see how I mix my color palettes, check out my tutorial here).
Once my colors were made, I started applying one shade at a time focusing on images around the panel. I tried not to get two identical complexion shades right next to each other. After all the faces were colored, I moved onto the hair. I love having texture in the hair so I used two different paint brushes to create waves or dimension in the hair.
Keeping the rest of the image all white really makes the faces of the image stand out as they have no other colors to compete with. Setting this panel aside, I worked on the card base. Using Pumpkin cardstock I was able to keep my color palette warm. I stamped a sentiment from the Power To The People set in Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink and heat set it with Detail White Embossing Powder. Next I adhered the pumpkin cardstock to a 5" x 7" white card base made with Hero Arts Dove White Cardstock.
Now it was time to trim down the watercolor panel to 4.75" x 5.75" and adhere it to my card base using foam tape. Lastly I colored two clear enamel dots from the Clear Hero Hues Enamel Dots pack with a Copic marker in E35 to match the warm palette.
I love how this card turned out. I can't wait to color this image again and again. Don't forget to check out the entire Hero Arts August add-ons collection here, including a fabulous new Skin Tone Liquid Watercolor Set. Thanks for stopping by today and we will see you back here soon.
