Video: Watercolor Stamping

Jessica Frost-Ballas

Good morning! Jess here with a cheery watercolored Christmas card using the adorable Christmas Mice stamp set!

I have a video sharing how to create this card that you can watch below:

(If you are having problems viewing this video, please try watching it HERE on YouTube.)

To start I stamped the adorable mouse and ornament stamp from Christmas Mice onto a piece of watercolor paper with Versafine and heat-embossed it with clear embossing powder. I masked the ornament with masking fluid and then created the suggestion of a Christmas tree by inking the outline and detail pine branch images from Color Layering Trimmings with Distress Inks in Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint, and Forest Moss. I inked the stamp, spritzed it with water, and pressed it to watercolor paper to get a soft impressionistic look. When I was done stamping I splattered the panel with the same distress inks and Pewter Glimmer Metallic Ink. While it was drying I stamped the sentiment from Wonder and Magic of Christmas onto black cardstock with Versamark and heat-embossed it with white embossing powder.

Once it was dry I rubbed the masking fluid off and painted the mouse and ornament with paints from the Daniel Smith Dot Palette created for Hero Arts. I like these colors so much that I purchased full tubes of each color but you could easily use the dot palette to paint dozens of these designs without running out of paint! I used Moonglow, Quinacridone Pink, and Permanent Alizarin Crimson along with a little Pewter and Red Glimmer Metallic Ink

Next I trimmed the panel down and adhered it to a white card base. I adhered the sentiment with foam mounting tape and then coated the ornament with a layer of Spectrum Noir clear sparkle and Nuvo crystal glaze. Then I sprinkled it with a tiny bit of Snowfall Glitter to finish the card with a little extra sparkle!  All in all it's a pretty straightforward card but I love how that little bit of glitter just catches the eye! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fabulous crafty day!
