Video: Selective Stencling & Gold Gilding
Michelle Short
Hello there, Michelle Short here. Today I have a card and video to share using selective stenciling. I am also adding Hero Wax to the stenciling to get a gold gilded look.
Here is the video showing how I made the card:
(If you are having trouble viewing this video, please watch here on YouTube.)
I started off my card by taking a panel of Deluxe Smooth White Cardstock cut to the same size as the stencils. I placed it on my craft mat and held it down with low-tack tape. I then took the Color Layering Folk Art Stencils and masked off parts of each stencil with memo tape. This is a great way to get different looks from stencils by only using parts of them!

The stencils are numbered, but I am using them in a different order today. I started off with stencil 2, placed it over the cardstock panel, making sure that the bottom left-hand corner was lined up with the cardstock, before holding down with tape.
Using a Small Ink Blending Brush, I blended Intens-ified Black Ink into the openings. I did the same for stencil 3.

For stencil 1, I first blended a layer of Summer Sky Core Ink to the petals, followed by Indigo Core Ink, just to the base of the petals. I then added a little Grape Juice Core Ink on top.
Keeping the stencil in place, I added a little Gold Hero Wax to a non-stick craft sheet and picked it up with a sponge dauber. I then pounced/dabbed this into the petals, focussing it towards the bottom of the petals, but so that as the gold goes up the petals, it gives a soft blended look.

I removed the stencil and set the panel aside to dry. Once dry, it was die cut out using the largest die in the Arches Infinity Dies set. I then cut a little off the bottom using a guillotine.
I cut another two arches from Pitch Black Cardstock. I added a scoring line at the top of one of them to create a hinge. I added adhesive to this before adhering to the other arch, to create an arch shaped card base.

The stenciled panel was then adhered on top, using thin foam tape. I stamped a sentiment from Message Strips Stamp & Cut XL onto Pitch Black Cardstock using Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink. I applied Gold Embossing Powder and heat set. It was cut into a strip and adhered to the card with more foam tape. To finish, I embellished with Gold Gems.
I really love how the arch shape fits the shape of the stenciling, and adding gold wax on top really adds an extra touch! Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a wonderful day!
