Video: Last Minute Christmas Cards | Color Layering With Yana Series
Yana Smakula
Hello Hero Arts fans! Welcome back for another episode of the Color Layering video series!
In this video & episode, since it’s so close to Christmas, I am making Last Minute Christmas cards using the Color Layering Christmas Tree set. Now don’t panic if you don’t yet have your holiday cards ready - these are easy and very quick to make. If you decide to mass produce these each card will take you about 5 to 10 minutes to make, maybe even less.
Watch the video tutorial below to learn how I made the cards I'm sharing today.
If you’re having a problem viewing this video, please try watching it HERE in HD on YouTube.
I’ve started working on my cards by creating backgrounds first. I used one of my favorites stamps - the Newspaper Bold Prints to make all of the backgrounds for all of my cards. Even though this is not a Christmas or Holiday stamp specifically, it’s still a great one to use to create some quick and easy backgrounds.
I went with tone on tone stamping for the most part here. I used Navy ink & blue cardstock; Gold embossing powder & white cardstock; Forever Green ink & green cardstock and Royal Red ink & red cardstock.
To stamp the main image for my cards, the Christmas tree, I used 2 sets of colors - greens and blues. You can also use other colors and maybe go whimsical and have a pink or a purple tree if you like.
I used brown ombre ink for both color combinations to stamp the tree trunk and also stamp the sentiment for my cards. The Color Layering Christmas Tree stamp set is probably the easiest one to align, hence why it’s a perfect one to use for last minute holiday cards. If you flip the packaging of your set to the back you can see the step by step guide that tells you what you need to do to create a beautiful little tree. The basic idea here is you want to stamp 3 layers using 3 shades of one color, so for example green and for my green tree I used Green Apple, Moss and Forever Green and stamp the last layer in a different contrasting color to work as ornaments on your tree.
For my blue trees I used a Pool to Navy ombre ink pad, also Deep Ocean and Aegean. Finally, I stamped a slope under the tree and for this I used Soft Sky ink.
Next, I added the last, 4th tree layer. I heat embossed it in Red and also Gold Glitter embossing powder. You can use Silver Sparkle powder just as well to heat emboss the lights layer on some of your trees. Using a sparkle embossing powder for these kinds of projects is especially fitting!
I finished up all of my panels and foam mounted them onto my card bases already covered with the pre-stamped backgrounds. I love the different colors used for the background and also different color options used for the trees themselves.
Have fun stamping!
