Video: Gift Shop Peek-A-Boo Christmas Card
Hey there, Daniel, here, with a video showing you how I colored in the new Gift Shop Background Cling stamp and turned it into a peek-a-boo card!
Sometimes I color something and it turns out ok, but other times I fall in love with the project. This one I love! What makes one coloring project stand out more than another? Let me know in the comments below.
Here are some differences I have observed.
- Limit your color palette to a few colors that are adjacent or opposite each other on the color wheel. For this project, I used just brown, blue-green, red and yellow.
- Create contrast by choosing some very dark shades of those colors to sit next to very light shades.
- Focus on the project as a whole composition. Pay attention to details, but do not sweat the smallest ones.
- Enjoy yourself. You will know if coloring is your thing. You will feel a sense of joy and satisfaction as you go.
Creating this card is super straightforward. I stamped the Gift Shop Background out on Dove White cardstock with Hero Arts Intense Black Ink – which is Copic friendly. Then, I colored it in with Copic markers. You can watch the video to see it all come together.
After coloring it in, I die cut a Dove white panel with the Peek-a-Boo Doors Fancy Die, and did the same with the colored panel. Then, I stamped some images from the Hero Greetings Christmas Gift Shop stamp set on the plain die cut panel and colored them in with Copics.
To finish it all off, I adhered the top panel to the middle panel and then everything to the front of a card base.
I hope you enjoy this relaxing project. It's a complex coloring job, but a fairly simple construction.
Alternatively, you could make the same card style with no Copics by simply heat embossing the gift shop image over your favorite Hero Hues Cardstock.

A totally stunning Christmas scene and coloring!! Love the vintage colors and feel of the whole project! Love your work!
Daniel, Love the color palate and how you created the shadows. You reminded me how much fun it is just to color which is why I started stamping over 20 years ago. I need to get out my Peek-A-Boo die and stamps again.
Very cute card. Loved what you did with just this background stamp. Amazing!
Your stamping, coloring & use of peek-a-boo doors dies makes me want to be a child again looking into the window.
