VIDEO: Create a Whimsical Card by Coloring on Die Cuts

Mindy Eggen

Welcome friends! This is Mindy Eggen with you today to show you how to create a whimsical design on your card projects by coloring on die cuts which is quickly becoming one of my favorite techniques.

I have a video tutorial that you can check out on the Hero Arts Youtube channel walking you through step-by-step how I achieved this look.

There are many different ways to add color to die cuts such as ink blending, watercoloring or coloring using your favorite coloring medium like markers or colored pencils. Today, I'll be using my Olo Markers which is an alcohol based marker.

The Floral Frame is a wonderful design with whimsical flowers and vines. Some of the areas can be a little tricky to color but I'm sharing a tip in the video on how I did this!

I die cut the Floral Frame from Deluxe Smooth White cardstock and used the following Olo markers to color in the image

- YG1.4, YG1.6

- YO2.2, YO2.5, YO2.7

- BV2.2, BV2.3

Since the inside area die cuts out, I thought it would be a fun idea to turn this into a shaker card but first I lightly ink blended Dusty Blue ink on another piece of cardstock.

I added acetate to the back of my window using liquid glue and then built a well for my shaker pieces using foam strips.

I finished off with a sentiment die cut from the It's Our Anniversary Stamp & Cut XL cut from Periwinkle Cardstock which matched my light ink blending perfectly.

Since I left off an additional sentiment, I can use this card for any celebratory occasion!

I love doing this technique and hope you give it a try!
