Treat Yourself

Emily Midgett

Hi there! Emily Midgett here with you today with some inspiration featuring treats that just scream summertime to me. It's been hotter than blazes in my neck of the woods; summer is in full swing. Not much says summer like walking around a carnival with cotton candy, licking up a snow-cone, or drooling over some cherry pie. I've used the You're Sweet As Pie stamp set to create some custom patterned paper for today's project, creating a "window" of pattern with a little masking, my T-square, and a black fine line marker. Let's get started with the details!

To start today's project, I began with a panel of white Copic-friendly cardstock. I then used my T-square and a thin black pen to create a rectangular frame on my panel, finally covering the outer edges of the panel using Post-It notes to create a mask. I then stamped the dessert stamps from You're Sweet As Pie using Intense Black Ink. I overlapped the pattern on the edges of the masked areas to create the illusion that the pattern continued beyond the edges of the frame. After I'd finished stamping my pattern, I colored the images using Copic markers in bright summery shades.

After I'd finished coloring my images, I removed my masks to reveal a clean white frame around the edge of my sweet and colorful patterned paper. I stamped a greeting from You're Sweet As Pie onto some strips of Pitch Black cardstock using Clear Embossing and Watermark Ink and added some white embossing powder

I adhered the sentiment strips on the patterned panel, then trimmed the edges of the panel down a bit and adhered it to an A2 panel of Pitch Black cardstock to create a nice neat frame around the edge.

Well, that's all for my project today! I hope you're staying cool wherever you are, maybe with a snow cone to help! ;) Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous day!

Super cute card, Emily! I love the background…. did you splatter something or did you use a pen?
