Subtle Stenciled Poinsettia Background
Hi there! Emily Midgett here with you today, and I've got some fun, tone-on-tone holiday inspiration for you today featuring a sparkling stenciled background that works perfectly with this month's Stay Crafty With Hero challenge - stenciling! I love using stencils to create subtle backgrounds that add a little bit of "something" to the area behind the main focal point. For today's project, I've paired the super graphic and bold Poinsettia Pattern Stencil with some White Iridescent Shimmer Mist to create a subtle, sparkling backdrop for my bold sentiment. Let's get started with the details!
I began by trimming down some Cranberry Hero Hues cardstock to A2 size, then taped the Poinsettia Pattern Stencil to the panel to keep it in place while I did my spritzing. I then spritzed some White Iridescent Shimmer Mist over the stencil to create a shimmery, super subtle patterned background.
I love to keep color schemes somewhat simple, especially on holiday cards, because I try to add plenty of sparkling embellishments and textures, so keeping the color scheme simple helps to keep the eyes from being overwhelmed. I die cut the Merry Christmas from the Christmas Holidays Stamp & Cut XL from some more Cranberry cardstock, and the halo portion from some vellum.
Next, I die cut the Paper Layering Poinsettia dies from Cranberry cardstock, and the leaves from white glitter paper in the Glitter Paper Basics pack. I blended a bit of Red Royal ink to the edges of the poinsettia petals to help make them pop a bit from the red background. The subtlety of the shimmery, stenciled background provides a perfect backdrop for some large die cut flowers! I popped all of the die cuts up using foam adhesive, then added a few crystal gems to help fill in any bare spots on the card front and add one more touch of shine. You can never have too much shine on a holiday card, right?
Well, that's all for my project today! I hope you'll check out the Stay Crafty WIth Hero stenciling challenge...such a great way to use those stencils in your stash and possibly win a prize!
Thanks so much for reading, and have a marvelous day.
