Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge #9
Hi everyone! We have a special treat for you for our Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge this week! We have a special guest helping out with the next theme. If you follow this blog, you are familiar with Julee Tilman - she's been wowing us with her card inspiration in our My Monthly Hero release blog hops for quite a while now. And for as long as we've known Julee (which is a VERY long time!), she's been doing sketch challenges. Her Mojo Monday sketches are an amazing source of inspiration. And for this challenge, she lended her sketch-creating talents to provide one for all of you, right here! So without further adieu, we present this week's theme - Sketch Challenge - and we invite Julee to take it away...!
Hi everyone! It's Julee popping in with a card sketch for this week's Stay Crafty with Hero Challenge. Card sketches are one of my favorite crafty tools, especially when I haven't stamped for a while or if there's a card I need to make, but don't know where to start. Having a great layout to start from removes some of the pressure of staring at a blank piece of cardstock. There is no right or wrong way to interpret a card sketch. It's just a jumping off point for your creativity. I've listed the measurements I used for my sample card below, but please use whatever size works for your images. I can't wait to see what you create!
Recently a few of my friends have lost loved ones, so I knew I wanted to make a sympathy card with this sketch. While flipping through stamp sets, this beautiful bloom from Protea Flowers caught my eye and I immediately envisioned it in purple hues. So I stamped with Intens-ified Black Ink, then colored with Copic markers (BV00, BV02, BV13, BV08, YG03, YG63, YG67, and G99). After I finished coloring, I die cut with the coordinating Protea Flowers Frame Cuts and accented the flower tips with the Crystal Clear Lacquer Pen and some loose glitter.
I set the flower aside to dry, then got to work cutting panels from patterned paper. I wanted a soft, neutral background to really make the colors of the flower pop. I used a 4 x 5.25" panel for the main panel, then a 1.5" x 5.25" panel of a different pattern for the vertical strip. The rectangle panel is cut to 2" x 3.5". I then sponged lightly around the edges of all the patterned paper layers with Soft Brown Shadow Ink and adhered together. To add more contrast between each panel and to keep the layers to a minimum, I used a thin black pen to trace around the vertical strip and rectangle for a subtle frame effect.
The sentiment is embossed with White Detail Embossing Powder on a Pitch Black die cut using the 2.25" x 1" rectangle from the Nesting Rectangle Infinity Dies. I then adhered my flower behind the sentiment, allowing the bottom leaf to peek out over the edge of the panel. The sentiment and flower are popped up with adhesive foam tape, then I matted the whole card panel with Pitch Black cardstock and adhered to an A2 size card base.
Now it's your turn - we'd absolutely love for you to join us! We want to encourage you to actually sit down and enjoy the process of creating. We know it is a source of fun, relaxation and stress relief - something we all can use a bit more of right now. Create a new card for this challenge, based on Julee's Sketch. Use the Inlinkz tool at the very bottom of this post to link up your card, and you will be entered into our drawing. We will be giving a $35 gift certificate randomly to one person who plays along! To link up your project, you need to share it publicly somewhere you can grab the link - this can be your blog, Instagram, a Flickr account - anything that allows you to have a URL or website location to link up.
We, of course, encourage you to use your favorite Hero Arts products. But any and all entries are eligible for consideration. We really care most about you bringing a little inky joy into your life. From here on out, our challenges will run for 2 weeks (or more, on occasion). Beautiful card! Love the tip about drawing around the panels instead of adding more layers. It makes the panels stands out but saves on paper and eliminates bulk. Perfect! Thanks for sharing!
Gorgeous card!
