Saturdays with Sally: Mix Your Medias!
Our new mixed media release provides lots of new possibilities for creating! Try some new products and let the artist in you CREATE!
My cards today feature Handwritten Affirmations, which work well with these projects. This first one featuring "Dream Big" could be a great graduation card. Simply paint with inks or watercolor wash a piece of watercolor paper with colors shown. Let dry. Die cut stars from 5-Point Stars Infinity Dies from gold glitter paper. Use Gold Glimmer Metallic Ink and flick/splatter it onto the card with a brush and your finger. Add your sentiment in black ink when card is dry.
My favorite paper artist on Instagram, Lynn Giunta, inspired me to make a hand cut paper design, so my choice today is "Wish". Once again take a piece of watercolor paper and swish some color around using inks or watercolors. I also used the Cobblestone Stencil with a small blending brush. Let thoroughly dry. Add sentiment "Wish" with black ink. Hand cut three bright paper candles and mount with foam tape. I always have a scrap basket nearby for times live these! Add Enamel Dots to embellish the candles.
"Today is a Good Day" is such a great message!! This card was created with the Tiling Textures stamp set for a “greenhouse” background. They make perfect windows! I stamped Small Distressed Block as the base. Then overstamp with darker shades of ink. On watercolor paper, paint a cloud in light blue. Let dry. Stamp message. Hand cut a cloud leaving a white edge. Now for the flowers! Dig into your scrap basket for anything to make some small pots. Textured paper is great. Cut simple shapes and mount at the bottom. Ink up the flowers from Floral Silhouettes with inks or pens. Stamp out clusters of flowers on colored scraps. Hand cut and mount in the pots. Add detail with various pens.
Acrylic paints can add another dimension to your creations. I used the same "Today is a good day" message on the art piece below. I got an inexpensive 8x10 canvas board that was already painted white with a base coat. I took the Cobblestone Stencil and some Glitter Hero Paste and created some dimension. When it was dry, I took a one inch brush and began adding a few vibrant acrylic colors, like my favorite pinks and oranges. I added black for some contrast because my message would be stamped at the end. I added some dots directly from the paint tubes for a confetti look. In 10 minutes you can have your own work of ART. Frame it and hang it up and it will remind you TODAY IS A GOOD DAY.
Happy Creating,

I love Sally’s creative mixed media projects!! The idea to use only the top of the flowers and make planters is wonderful and I love all of the color and texture on all of the cards as well as the Eiffel Tower scissors!!
