Creating Backgrounds with Neon Brights Liquid Watercolors
Break out those sunglasses! 😎 Today I have some bright cards to share featuring our new Neon Brights Liquid Watercolors.
There are so many techniques you can do with these watercolors! In addition to coloring images and creating painted backgrounds, here are a few of my favorites:
- Mix with Hero Paste to create neon-colored pastes. You can use it through stencils or just swipe on your project with a palette knife.
- Paint over stencils. I suggest using a repositionable adhesive, like Pixie Spray, on your stencil to avoid the watercolor seeping underneath. And go light on the water for this technique.
- Create splatters! Add a bit of water and use a paintbrush to create splatters on your projects. Or use the watercolor full-strength and your splatters will have a bit of a glossy finish.
I had so much fun playing around and created a bunch of backgrounds that can quickly be turned into cards.
The first card I made uses a rainbow watercolored background. I simply die-cut a few hearts using the Nesting Hearts Infinity Dies, popped it up on a card base, and added a couple sentiment strips.
I saved the leftover hearts to use on my second card, which shows off the neon watercolors being used with the Stripe Stencil. When using stencils with watercolors, make sure to not add too much water as it will start to seep under the stencil.
For this next card I used one of the organically-painted backgrounds and die-cut some butterflies using the Nesting Butterflies Infinity Dies. Die-cutting images from a whole background is a quick way achieve colored images, rather than coloring each individual butterfly.
The green card uses the Chartreuse and Green Neon Watercolors along with some splatters to create a fun background. I kept this one super simple and just trimmed apart the background into four strips and adhered to my card base with foam adhesive. A sentiment strip and a few Green and Clear Enamel Dots finish this one off.
And this last card might be my favorite! I had some paste leftover after playing with stencils so I smeared it on a piece of white cardstock with my palette knife. I just added some splatters with Black Liquid Watercolor and a few birthday message strips. The colored paste reminds me of birthday cake frosting!
All of these cards use the Everyday Sentiment Strips and Sentiment Strips Fancy Die for the messages. I love having bowl of these messages on my desk to quickly add to cards.
