Muted Magnolia
Emily Midgett
Hi there! Emily Midgett here with you today sharing some inspiration using a few of the older products from previous catalogs. I love mixing old and new products, because I so frequently forget that there are so many beautiful older products sitting on my shelf just waiting to be used!! Today, I've paired the older-but-still-gorgeous Hero Florals Magnolia with the Bold Graphic Confetti Die and the newer Hello Message Fancy Die and Hero Hues cardstock. Let's get started with the details!
I began by stamping the magnolia on some watercolor paper using a pale gray ink made for no-line watercoloring. I then used Daniel Smith watercolors in shades of pink, gray, and yellow to add super subtle highlights and shadows to the magnolia flower. I have always struggled with truly white flowers, because white flowers are never truly "white," but pick up the shades of the colors around them, creating a myriad of highlights and lowlights. Since magnolias can also come in shades of pale rose, I figured I'd avoid the white flower confusion altogether and create a pale pink magnolia! I began with a very diluted pink wash, then added some gray for shadows, finally adding a bit of yellow on the edges of a few flowers to create some "sunny" highlights!
After I'd completed the watercoloring, I did a little die cutting. I die cut the Bold Graphic Confetti Die some iridescent vellum (leftover from the DIY Ornament kit) and adhered it to a Lavender card base. Next, I die cut the giant Hello die from some Pebble cardstock and trimmed a strip of Dove White cardstock to anchor my flower and sentiments.
I silver heat embossed a greeting from Hero Florals Magnolia on the bottom of the white strip of cardstock, then adhered it to the Lavender-vellum card front using foam adhesive, adding the watercolored magnolia and the die cut hello with liquid adhesive!
Well, that's all for me today! I hope I've inspired you to have a little peek into your bins to see what older hidden treasures might just be waiting to be used. Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous day!
Awesome card Emily, I love that you adhered the Bold Graphic Confetti die cut on to the Lavender cardstock, in the photo’s it almost shows like the same colour. Your colouring is as always, great. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome inspiration.
What a beautiful card! I love the pretty flower and the awesome background! :)
This is so gorgeous!!
Lovely card, Emily. The embossed background works so well for highlighting your image/sentiment. tfs
