Just Wanted to Bug You...

Apr 20, 2021 Maria Willis

Hi everybody! It's Maria here and I have a soft and sweet card to share with you today. I've paired up the Bug You stamp set and the Hero Arts Liquid Watercolors to make a quick and easy card.

I loved this Bug You stamp set from the second I saw it. I LOVE bugs! I often think that I could have been an entomologist because I think insects are so fascinating-basically, I love all of the creepy crawlies! Even if you aren't a crazy bug lover like me I think you'll have a lot of fun with this set. It's got punny sentiments, a variety of artistically drawn insects and even an adorable bonus snail!

I couldn't decide which of the fun images to use for my card so I had fun watercoloring all of them with my Liquid Watercolors and then I cut them out with the coordinating dies. While I had my paints out I also did a watercolor wash for my background. I love that you can easily achieve a bold look, or, a soft ethereal look with these paints. If you've never done a background like this I hope you'll give it a try because they're easy to do. Paint a light coating of water on a piece of watercolor paper. Then, paint your watercolors on top of the wet background. The water you laid down first will help the paint to blend together seamlessly and you'll end up with a smooth, dreamy background. On this background I used Pink and Dandelion watercolors.

Next, I stamped my sentiment in Onyx Pigment Ink and then heat embossed it in Clear Embossing Powder. I decided that the butterfly would look nice placed above the sentiment as if it were about to land on the sentiment. The butterfly was watercolored using Pink, Orange, Dandelion and Indigo Liquid Watercolors. I added the butterfly with foam tape to add some dimension.

I popped the panel up using foam adhesive onto a black card base. To finish the card off I added some Clear Enamel Dots. These added some texture to the background and still allowed the butterfly to be the star of the show.

Ok, you guys, that is it for today! I hope you think this Bug You set is as fun as I do and that you'll have a little play with your Liquid Watercolors soon. If you'd like even more watercolor inspiration, tune into Live with Libby on the Hero Arts Facebook page at 11:00am Pacific today!

Have a wonderful day and bye for now!
