Floral Frame with a Twist
We often talk about stretching our stamps but how often do we think about stretching our dies? Today I’m using the beautiful Floral Border Fancy Die on a pair of cards in an unconventional way. Rather than using this elegant floral border to frame a sentiment or image, I’m giving it a literal twist and then using it to create a unique and textured background.
To make these cards, I started by die-cutting several card-sized panels of Arctic and Lapis cardstock with the Floral Border Fancy Die. Then, I cut each panel into two pieces with a diagonal cut across the cardstock. Using the tip of my Reverse Grip Tweezers, I gently pushed each die-cut shape from the back to “pop” the shapes on the front. I secured the panels at angles onto Dove White Side Folded Cards with Precision Glue, being careful not to glue any of the floral design to the card. I also trimmed the excess cardstock from the card edges with scissors.
I decided to only add a small image and sentiment to each card as I wanted as much of the floral background to remain as visible as possible. I started by die-cutting a pair of tiny tags with my favorite Tag Infinity Dies. Next, I stamped and die-cut a few small peonies and leaves with another favorite of mine, the Peonies Bunch Bundle. After shading each image with colored pencils, I glued them to the tags.
To finish the tags, I stamped a sentiment from the Art Journal Messages set with Clear Embossing & Watermark Ink onto a strip of Pitch Black cardstock and then heat embossed it with White Embossing Powder. The Art Journal Messages set has over twenty different sentiments that work well on both cards and in journals. This set is quickly becoming the most used sentiment set on my craft table.
Finally, before securing the completed tags to the cards with foam tape, I tied each tag with a small black bow. Then, I finished each card with a trio of glossy Blue Enamel Dots.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. Wishing you a wonderful and crafty week, perhaps with a twist!
