Finding Inspiration in Unexpected Places!

Jessica Frost-Ballas

Good morning! Jess here with a fun card inspired by a very famous logo...any guesses?

When I saw this month's Food Puns add-on set I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it! When the gorgeous Mermaid stamp was released last summer it reminded me of the famous Starbucks logo and her outstretched hand was perfect for a cup of coffee! So I've been waiting and hoping to find a coffee cup that would suit her and this is totally it! ;)

I wanted to loosely recreate their logo so I started by stamping the Mermaid on Snow layering paper with Versamark and then heat-embossed her with detail black embossing powder. Next I took a Sharpie and colored the entire area around her.  You could also do this with a colored pencil....I didn't want to waste that much black Copic ink or lead in my colored pencil so the cheap Sharpie was perfect! There is a coordinating outline die but there's so much detail in her hair that I didn't want to use the die and then have to color in the background anyway so it was easy enough just to color in the background with the sharpie.  I set that aside to dry while I worked on the rest of the card.

The mermaid's expression is exactly how I look at my first cup of coffee each day! ;) Ha! I stamped the cup onto Snow layering paper and heat-embossed it with detail black embossing powder. Then I colored it with Copics to loosely resemble a Starbucks cup (in colors not necessarily design). I fussy cut the cup and went over the edges with a black Copic marker. Next I die-cut a circle from a piece of dark green cardstock using the Nesting Circle Infinity Dies and layered it over my mermaid background. Then I stamped the sentiment from Food Puns onto a piece of Snow layering paper and heat-embossed it with detail black embossing powder.  I adhered the sentiment and cup with foam mounting tape and added a little shimmer to the mermaid and whipped cream topping!

So, there you go...inspiration in the most unexpected places! ;) Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fabulous day!

Love it, Jess. So clever.! You are right in that the coffee cup is the perfect size in relation to the mermaid for awesome perspective. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Holly! That is correct, “Snow” is simply the color name. It’s white 80# cardstock. :)

I don’t understand what snow laying paper is. Is it just the color name of the paper? Your card is cute!

I absolutely love this card and the idea. I have always wondered what their (Starbucks) logo really was and why it was what it was ❤️
