December My Monthly Hero Countdown: Idea #3 + Giveaway

Nov 30, 2019 Caly Person

Hello! We are continuing the countdown to the release of the December My Monthly Hero Kit! Release day is Monday, December 2 at 1pm Eastern/10 am Pacific. Our Creative Team will be here throughout the weekend, sharing inspiration before the launch. Now let's join Caly for another look at this fabulous kit!

Hi, Friends! Welcome to another countdown to the next My Monthly Hero release! The theme is “One World” and I decided to make a fun spinner card to share with you today.  Because the image I used is small, I decided to create a 4-bar sized card. The finished card is 3.5” x 5”.  It’s the perfect proportion for my globe and galaxy.

I created a galaxy background using Distress Oxide Inks. On a white piece of cardstock, I first added spots of color using Wilted Violet, Peacock Feathers, and Picked Raspberry. Then I filled in the white areas with Blueprint Sketch and darkened the outer edges with Black Soot. After ink-blending, I layered my panel over a card base and used a small circle – slighter bigger than the one for the images in the card kit to die-cut through both my galaxy panel and the cardbase to create my spinner.

Once the circle was cut through both panels, I took the galaxy panel and splattered it with some white ink to mimic stars. Once dry, I sealed it all in place with Distress Micro Glaze.  This not only creates a waterproof seal, it also intensifies the colors of the Distress Oxide Inks by adding shine to the chalky finish that reactive inks often leave.

I stamped the globe and the sentiment and die-cut them with the circle die from this month’s kit – because they’re they can be adhered together back to back, this makes it the perfect element for a spinner card. I colored the globe with Copic markers (G03, G09, B12, B24, B26) before turning it over to add some strong adhesive. Before sandwiching it with the sentiment piece, I added a clear/invisible string. Then prior to adding my galaxy panel to my cardbase, I added strong adhesive to the card base – adding my spinner and securing the invisible string onto the adhesive before adding my galaxy panel.

This creates such a fun card for recipients. To activate the spinner, you simply give your spinner piece a few turns before closing the card. When it is opened, it frees the spinning element and allows it to loosen its tension and spin. I hope you enjoyed this card!
