Hi there! Thanks so much for popping in to the Hero Arts blog today for a peek at the newest edition to the My Monthly Hero Kits. I am excited to introduce December's kit loaded with Arabian Night-ish / Moroccan vibes.
I knew as soon as I saw this set that I had to work with the gate, palms and charming enchantress. I began by creating a galaxy background and adding shading behind each dune gives the effect of depth. Next, partially die cut the gate into the background stopping just above the dunes. Finish trimming out by hand.
When working with die cuts, I sometimes want the rim as a border and other times it doesn't fit with the scene. In this case, the white rim would not have enhanced the card. To remedy, you could fussy cut - but an easier solution is to color the edges to match the background.
I also colored the white embossing with a yellow marker to tint the sentiment. This isn't great for markers, so I don't make a habit of it, but here and there it is just necessary, lol!
Win a kit before you can buy it! Just leave a comment on this (and every) Countdown to Creativity post! We'll randomly draw one lucky winner from all the comments left across all countdown posts, and announce the winner first thing Monday morning, December 4th, before the kit launches at 1pm Eastern. The more you comment, the more chances to win!
Good luck!
Wow! Don’t believe I’ve seen a kit like this before. Love your card.
Fantastic card and I love the way you colored the edge. I hadn’t thought of that yet.
Beautiful card!
What a wonderful card. I love that you stamp and diecut the palms, then colored the edges!
What a fun card! I love how you added coloring to all of the edges so they don’t stand out. Also, coloring the die cut edges allows them to stay smoother than they would with fussy cutting (at least if I were the one doing the cutting! =) ). When I want to do any coloring with markers around heat embossing, I bring out my Sharpies or Bic It markers. (I have never done the math, but I think one new tip for a Copic marker alone costs more than one of the less expensive markers).
Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us who love card making and the great kits from Hero Arts! Every month they come up with something that is fun and it is usually very different than anything else I see. That, and the dedication Hero Arts has shown to keeping the environment clean, makes me a huge fan!
