Customizing Standalone Die Cuts
Hi there! Emily Midgett here with you today, and I have some inspiration using the lovely new Looking Glass Bird on a Branch dies. I love the versatility of these Looking Glass dies. You can use them together, separately, with different coloring mediums, with colored cardstock, with black cardstock to create a silhouette...so many possibilities! My project today features some of the other standalone dies from the new 2022 Catalog. Let's get started with the details!
I began by die cutting the bird and two of the leaf frames from the Looking Glass Bird on a Branch set using plain white cardstock. I then used my Copic markers to add vivid color to the bird and foliage, leaving the surrounding frame plain white, which allows the colored images to stand out beautifully. I also die cut the Looking Glass Fine Art Frame from some more white cardstock. I layered the die cuts together using both Precision Glue and foam adhesive for lots of dimension.
Next, I trimmed down an A2 card base from some more white cardstock. I used one of the windows on the Alignment Tool Slimline Stencil to very lightly blend some Dusty Blue and Soft Vanilla inks on opposite corners. It reminds me of early morning, just when the sun begins to rise and the sky is so bright that it's almost white, with just a hint of blue!
I adhered the dimensional frame image using more Precision Glue, then thought that the plain area around the frame needed some interest. I die cut the new Birds and Flowers Cover Plate die from white cardstock and did some selective trimming. I adhered the pieces on the corner and around the frame, just to add a bit of tone-on-tone texture to the background. The final step was to add a greeting from Congrats & Yay Stamp & Cut XL, which I silver heat embossed on a strip of white cardstock and popped up with a double layer of foam tape to help it stand out even more.
Well, that's all for my project today! I hope you'll try customizing your die cuts with coloring mediums or by doing some selective trimming. The results are so much fun! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous day!
